A classroom at Yamakita Middle School 26 years ago was home to a student named Misaki, known for her academic and athletic abilities and her likable nature. After her unexpected death, her classmates agreed to pretend she was still present until graduation. Years later, in 1998, a new student named Kouichi Sakakibara joins the class and begins to notice an unsettling mood among the students. One classmate, a quiet and distant girl named Mei Misaki, who wears an eyepatch and often spends time drawing, draws his attention. The story was originally published in the literary magazine Yasei Jidai from 2006 to 2009 and later released as an illustrated light novel under the Sneaker Bunko imprint in 2012.
