During the waning years of the Tokugawa Shogunate in Edo, Suzu Kanchiku trains in swordsmanship at a school where she is the sole woman. She strives to master the art to the point of surpassing men. Beyond the dojo, she navigates societal pressures, including advances from samurai. The narrative explores the lives of various women from different backgrounds—martial arts instructors, courtesans, shop workers, nuns, and mercenaries—offering insight into their strength, perseverance, and compassion during the mid-19th century in Edo.
