In the near future, Japan has embraced Visions, a full-dive VR title carrying a lethal defect: players who exploit it by staying logged in for long stretches are turning up dead. An order goes out to force everyone offline and shut the game down, and a group of players refuses to go. Kokoro Hato, who handles hikikomori outreach for a community welfare office, dives into Visions herself to reach the holdouts and coax them back to the real world.
