In the early 1900s, scientific progress led to the development of advanced magic, combining science and sorcery into Makinot—spells embedded in objects to animate them and give them personality. Initially a military tool, it has since become widespread. Akabane Raishin is a student at the Royal Academy, aiming to be the best. He is accompanied by Yaya, a teenage girl who is his weaponized puppet. Despite his strong combat abilities and determination, Raishin struggles academically, often scoring near the bottom. He faces fierce competition from dangerous classmates as he strives to achieve his goal of becoming the top student.
