Mametarou is a male dog of mixed breed who lives with the Wakatsuki family. He has a strong bond with Ikuko Wakatsuki, whom he deeply cares for, and views Junichi Akiyoshi, her boyfriend, as a competitor. The story involves various events involving Mametarou, Ikuko, Akiyoshi, their friends Nao and Takeshi, Mametarou's affectionate interest Hanako, and other local dogs.
