Ochikubo Monogatari
落窪物語
A Heian period story akin to the Cinderella fairy tale, it follows Princess Ochikubo after she endures ongoing mistreatment from her stepmother. She marries a general named Michiyori and experiences a happy life with him. However, Michiyori begins seeking revenge against her family, orchestrating a sequence of degrading events. Eiko Hanamura adapted the tale into a manga as part of the *Manga Nihon no Koten* series, which features adaptations of classic Japanese literature from the Heian to Edo periods by notable manga artists.
