In the world of Alcia, status is measured by "counts." A young girl named Hina travels in search of Ace, a legendary hero from the Waste War, guided only by her mother's final words before she disappeared. As she moves from town to town, Hina encounters Licht, a masked wanderer with a count of -999. He is womanizing and erratic, seemingly the opposite of a traditional hero.
