Jan 16, 2020Centuries ago, the Waste War ended with the disappearance of superhuman warriors called Aces. Licht demonstrates his incredible speed, earning the title Ace of Flashing Strikes, as his defeated enemy count reaches 5700 while his rejection count stands at negative 999. He easily defeats soldiers, reducing their numbers and returning Hina’s stolen 440 Ballot, raising her total to 760. Licht then appears to steal Hina’s 10,000 Ballot, leaving her with a stuffed doll. Nana later reveals Licht hid the illegal Ballot in the doll to protect Hina from the soldiers. Devastated by the apparent theft, Hina tries to stop Licht, but when he ignores her, she shouts that she hates him. This declaration changes his rejection count to negative 1000. A soldier then reveals he is a spy, thanking Hina for helping him locate Licht and reporting his position to his masters.

Jan 23, 2020The army overlooks Hina and targets Licht, suspecting he holds the Ballot. Master Sergeant Lynn May volunteers in a village to increase her count, apprehending a masked man she believes to be Licht. He reveals his negative 1000 score and cries over past rejections. Following Sergeant Pele Poporo’s advice, Lynn attempts a pity date, but Licht’s groping inadvertently raises her count by alleviating his desperation. Pele realizes the negative score indicates a Ballot Holder, prompting Lynn to unmask him. Licht steals her sword, only to discover Lynn is a martial artist. During their brief fight, Lynn becomes flustered by his flirting, allowing him to escape when she closes her eyes expecting a kiss. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Jail Murdoch interrogates Nana about Licht’s location, destroying her food wagon when she lies, and sets out to hunt him down.
EP 4Lynn chases Licht through village misunderstandings before Murdoch attacks with high-ranking Ballot power.
Jan 30, 2020After Licht escapes, Lynn remains depressed about a lost promotion but pursues him through the village. Misunderstandings cause residents to believe they are arguing, allowing Licht to flee again when she complains about her uniform. Hina intends to warn Licht about Lieutenant Murdoch but must first repair Nana’s wagon. While Licht observes the villagers’ preference for peace over justice, Lynn is repeatedly distracted by local issues, prompting Licht to admire her and reveal himself so the chase can continue. Murdoch and his soldiers then attack, forcing Licht to defend Lynn. Murdoch’s Ballot number is revealed to be 900, granting him the ability to forge iron weapons and earning him the nickname Iron Jail. He hides his true number, 12,500, from superiors to avoid an office promotion, as this figure is over twice Licht’s own number.

Lynn intervenes to protect Licht and is injured, prompting Murdoch to berate her for prioritizing charity over justice. Licht breaks free, revealing his iron resistance, and demands an apology for insulting Lynn’s work ethic. Their battle destroys a cliff, causing Lynn to fall. Murdoch attempts to catch her, but Licht does so first, insulting her to lower his count to negative 1001. Licht allows Murdoch to escape, who then creates a play area for village children. Murdoch grants Licht a three-day head start before resuming the hunt with Lynn. While fixing a doll, Murdoch’s count drops from 12500 to 12499 for abandoning his conviction.

Licht saves Pelmo from falling and agrees to help her realize her dream of flight, despite the death penalty for such research. He modifies her design while Hina praises him, though Licht worries about the danger. When Hina asks about his dream, he deflects with a crude remark. Soldiers arrive, forcing Licht to destroy the aircraft by claiming the wings are broken windmill sails. An abyss opens, and Pelmo reveals her count has reached zero as her dreams fail. Hina attempts to save Pelmo, but the abyss resists. Licht suffers a violent flashback when the abyss strikes his sword. Although Licht prefers Hina's superior cooking, the crowd pressures him to choose a winner. Murdoch interrupts, scolding Lynn for her distraction, which allows Licht to deflect blame. Nana intervenes in the ensuing conflict, reprimanding the group for damaging the town square. Her strong personality surprises even Murdoch, who joins the festivities. Murdoch drunkenly accuses Licht of being the Legendary Ace, prompting Licht to encourage further drinking. Lynn becomes tipsy after one glass and questions Hina about her relationship with Licht. As both men pass out, Lynn and Hina offer their laps as pillows. Suddenly, the abyss reappears, destroying part of the town and emitting a strange noise. Gregorovich identifies Sonohara’s troops as the Special Services Unit and reveals Licht was the strongest Ace, a surgically altered weapon who stopped aging. He exposes that Murdoch’s number has fallen to 12,499 and demands Licht’s location. Murdoch lies, causing the number to drop to 12,498, then to 12,496 after admitting he attacked Althing. Murdoch returns to arrest Licht, who surrenders, but a spy reveals they want Licht to continue plundering. Licht claims indifference, focusing only on convincing his brother Sakai Tokikaze to return home. Doan steals stars from lockers, threatening Sakai’s malnourished grandmother, who is his landlord’s tenant. To prevent expulsion, students share their stars, leaving Sakai with none. He refuses to leave due to food benefits for soldiers’ families. Murdoch gives Sakai his remaining star and threatens Doan outside the gate. Schmelman interrupts, revealing Rihito pickpocketed Doan’s stars, leaving him with only two. Schmelman rewards Murdoch’s loyalty with two stars. Murdoch is rescued by Nana, the first Ace of Knowing, who explains that humans like Schmelman naturally harmonize with Althing, while others require ballots or surgery. The surgery implants Schmelman’s DNA into children, a process Nana survived and which will eventually affect Rihito, Sonohara, and four others to create seven Aces. Nana provides a memory card with future information before Murdoch is captured by Captain Alan and sentenced to execution.

During a beach capture the flag exercise, Rihito’s class wins by outsmarting Doan, leading them to appoint him as Commander. Distraught over breaking his no-kill oath, Rihito watches Hina, Murdoch, Lynn, and Pele glow and return to their time. Determined to prevent his friends from killing, Rihito swears his ballot will count enemies killed on their behalf. Hina, realizing she cannot stop Rihito from becoming Licht, decides to love him completely. She strips naked, forcing Rihito to fondle her breasts to create a memory for the war, and vows to wait 300 years to marry him and bear his children so he remains never lonely.

Licht cries and apologizes, explaining he hid his face because he had lost his smile and did not want Nana to see a fake one. The group visits a beach the next day, where Lynn feels insecure about her weight. Irritated, Hina traps Licht and demands answers, leading him to reveal he knew Hina's mother, Tsukina Farrow.
