8 jul 2008A street kid named B-Devil meets with three of his friends at a skate park in Gotham City. All three of them tell stories in reverse chronological order about them seeing Batman battling with the Man in Black, a high-tech criminal, earlier that day. Each story has three very different interpretations of Batman's form and abilities: one told by Porkchop describes him as a living shadow that can melt away and reappear at will (similar to Vampire Batman), another by Meesh describes him as a half-bat, half-man creature (similar to Man-Bat), and a third told by Dander describes him as a combat robot called Robobat that can leap tall buildings in a single bound. At the end, Batman pursues the Man in Black to the skate park and captures him with the help of B-Devil, who is able to see what Batman truly is after seeing him sustain injuries from the battle: a very human warrior in a Batsuit. 8 jul 2008Detectives Crispus Allen and Anna Ramirez, partners and members of the Major Crimes Unit hand-picked by Lt. James Gordon, are assigned to take the recently captured Man in Black, whose true identity is identified as Jacob Feely (an escaped inmate from Arkham Asylum with an expertise in advanced electronics and explosives), back to the asylum to be incarcerated. On their way, they argue over whether Batman can be trusted: Allen says they're running errands for a vigilante, while Ramirez replies that Batman has changed Gotham City for the better. As they are heading back, Allen declares his intention to leave the MCU, and Ramirez pulls into a vacant lot to confront Allen. However, the two get caught in a gang war with rival mafia leaders Yuri "the Russian" Dimitrov and Sal Maroni. With his thugs gunned down, Maroni takes refuge behind Allen and Ramirez's patrol car, which the Russian subsequently destroys with a rocket launcher as the detectives manage to get clear in time. Allen is rescued by Batman, who proceeds to take out the Russian and his thugs, but Maroni then threatens to kill Ramirez only to be dispatched by the vigilante as well. Batman recognizes Allen and Ramirez as Gordon's hand-picked officers and remarks that Gordon is a good judge of character, and disappears. (Source: Batman Fandom)

Batman tests a gyroscopic deflection device during a gang confrontation
8 jul 2008An accident involving Wayne Enterprises satellite's gyroscopic electromagnetic guidance system ends up with Lucius Fox creating a device with the satellite's gyro and an advanced motion sensor that will electromagnetically deflect small-arms fire. Bruce Wayne takes the device and attends a charity golf tournament for the homeless being held by developer Ronald Marshall, where both billionaires discuss the mysterious death of a community activist lady, Teresa Williams, who had opposed some of Marshall's plans. During the tournament, Wayne secretly takes Marshall's PDA device and, later that night as Batman, hijacks a boat owned by Sal Maroni, and drives it alongside a boat owned by rival gang leader Yuri "the Russian" Dimitrov. He proceeds to attack both gangs at once, with assistance from his new device. He attempts to force a truce between the two gang leaders until he can get evidence against them, but is disrupted when one of Maroni's men fires at him. The bullet deflects and instead hits one of the Russian's men, Anton. Distressed, Batman takes young Anton to the hospital. Later, he returns the device to Fox, stating, "...it works too well; I'm willing to put my life on the line to do what I have to. But it has to be mine, no one else's." (Source: Batman Fandom)

8 jul 2008The Gotham City Police Department respond to a riot in Gotham Cathedral, where Cardinal O'Fallon was giving a sermon. According to eyewitness testimony, the Cardinal was abducted by a large lizard-like monster and taken down into the crypts below the cathedral. Police Lt. Jim Gordon and his Major Crimes Unit detectives Crispus Allen and Anna Ramirez investigate, first having a brief conversation with Batman, who agrees with Gordon's theory that the Scarecrow's fear toxin is behind the riot as the doctor has been at large since the riot at the Narrows (during the event of Batman Begins). Batman gives Gordon an earpiece that will allow them to stay in contact and descends below ground, trying to find O'Fallon and his abductor. A homeless man living in an abandoned subway station identifies the abductor as Killer Croc. Batman and Gordon briefly discuss the villain's past, but are cut off when Killer Croc himself shows up under the influence of the fear toxin and attacks Batman. Batman defeats him, but not before sustaining a bite that transfers some of the toxin to him. He then finds Cardinal O'Fallon being put on trial and sentenced to death by the Scarecrow (who is unhappy with O'Fallon's efforts to help the homeless). Batman leaps in to defend the Cardinal. Using the methane already present in the room, he sparks an explosion that destroys several water pipes, flooding the area and allowing him to escape with the Cardinal. While Scarecrow escapes, Gordon appears in a helicopter to retrieve the Cardinal and offers to help Batman, but the vigilante turns it down, saying "Maybe next time" and flying off into the night. 8 jul 2008Continuing on from where In Darkness Dwells left off, Batman is shot in the stomach by a man hallucinating in the sewers of Gotham. He cauterizes the wound and attempts to get out from underground, reflecting on his experiences with managing pain as he does so. First, he remembers that while studying abroad for college, he volunteers with a relief effort staffed in a makeshift medical facility in Sudan that was saving wounded veterans fighting in a terrible tribal war, where he assists one of the doctors, Frederick Avery, in performing surgery without anesthesia. Next, he reflects on the lessons he learned from a woman named Cassandra. Cast out of her community for disguising herself as a boy in an attempt to join a religious sect, she teaches him to minimize his pain to the point where he can control it for over several months. One night, several young men harass Cassandra, who takes their blows without seeming to feel them. Bruce steps in to defend her, not only demonstrating his ability to withstand their attacks, but defeating them all with his martial arts skills. Cassandra then tells him to leave, saying that he has learned what he came to learn. She then comments on how Bruce's pain was beyond her, or possibly even his, ability to handle, but how it also appeared to be leading him down a path he desired. In the present, Batman ends up in a gutter, where he discovers a cache of guns in garbage. This gutter happens to be below his penthouse, and his butler Alfred arrives and tells Batman to give him his hand so he can pull him out. Batman, arms full of guns, replies that he can't. 8 jul 2008As Bruce Wayne reflects back on the murder of his parents, Deadshot aka. Floyd Lawton opens a case that stores his rifle and checks the time on his watch. In Wayne Manor Bruce and Alfred discuss the gun collection Bruce found in Working Through Pain. Alfred is confused about how Bruce could keep such a collection, calling it a "bag full of tragedy," but Bruce apologizes and tells him that he appreciates the attraction of a gun, but would never use one. Stating that you must know your enemy, Bruce talks about the sleek nature of a gun and that it has the ability to change lives, history, and even the power of God. Meanwhile, Deadshot has created a sniper's nest in a ferris wheel and assassinates a wealthy socialite. Later on, on a boat, Lawton meets with his customer to discuss the job. The man tells him that his theatrics are a bit too much, and Lawton replies that he's "just trying to keep it interesting." The man mentions that Deadshot is wanted back in Gotham and that the city is changing. With the police becoming more of a force in Gotham, the man says that the two need their next hit job. Because their Russian associates have been having trouble, the assassination and removal of James Gordon could help the Russians, but a job of this caliber could be tricky. Lawton, considers this an easy job because it's just another cop kill, but his customer is worried about his cockiness, telling him that "he worries too much," with Lawton responding that, "he instead worries too much." Back in Gotham, Batman meets with Detective Crispus Allen who tells him that Deadshot's hit is not until another couple of days and that the GCPD have put a 24-hour watch on Gordon. Because the GCPD can't cover every window and rooftop, Batman offers his help. Allen says that the GCPD and Gotham City has never dealt with anyone like Deadshot before, but Batman mentions that they have before. Tossing Allen Ronald Marshall's PDA, he mentions that there is a mailing account that links to an encrypted wire transmission exactly one week before Teresa Williams' assassination and tells him to turn it on before flying off to watch over Gordon. Calling Alfred, Batman asks about the satellite picture, to which Alfred responds that there are no rooftop snipers in his area. As Alfred tracks Bruce, Allen and Anna Ramirez are in the squad car with Gordon, when Allen expresses his concern. Gordon states that he's confused and wants to know how many other e-mail clients Deadshot has acquired, and that he wants him found tonight. Following Gordon, Batman gets a message from Alfred, telling him that Gordon will pass under Gotham's L Bridge right when the train passes over, but luckily the satellite picture picks up no one on the bridge, and that surely Deadshot won't fire from the fast moving train. Just for good measure, Batman glides along the train in search for the villain, but Alfred tells him that there is another train coming in the opposite direction. Deadshot is revealed to be in that train as he slings open the cargo door. With a clear view of Gordon he fires from the tracks, but Batman is fast enough to ricochet the bullet away and grapples over to Deadshot. He then reveals he knew that if he were to target Gordon, then Batman would be after him and that his clients would be very happy if he were to kill the Batman. Gliding towards him, Batman boards the roof of the train. When he sees Deadshot climbing up, he throws three batarangs toward him but they are destroyed by Deadshot's bullets. Batman runs towards him but is shot and falls off the side of the train. Deadshot is impressed by his bravery but considers him a fool for running at him, but doesn't realize that Batman has caught up to him until it's too late and his guns are destroyed. Finally captured, Deadshot reveals that the target has been Batman all along and that he was just doing his job. Bruce finally knocks him out and hands him over to the GCPD, who then take him to prison, along with a convicted Ronald Marshall who is implicated in at least one of the assassinations. Bruce returns home and tells Alfred that tonight's fight reminded him of his parent's murder and that he's been trying to stop those two bullets for his entire life. Alfred consoles Bruce by telling him that maybe he's had a deeper purpose in life. Bruce, in that moment sees the shining light of the Batsignal out his window. (Source: Batman Fandom)
