Porkchop describes Batman as a shape-shifting living shadow, Meesh portrays him as a half-bat, half-man hybrid, and Dander claims he is a leaping combat robot named Robobat. After the friends finish their differing narratives, Batman arrives to apprehend the Man in Black with B-Devil's assistance. Having observed Batman sustain injuries during the conflict, B-Devil realizes the hero is merely a human in a suit. He then recounts this true experience to his friends after Batman departs the scene.

Jul 8, 2008Detectives Crispus Allen and Anna Ramirez, hand-picked by Lt. James Gordon for the Major Crimes Unit, transport recently captured Man in Black, identified as Jacob Feely, an escaped Arkham Asylum inmate skilled in electronics and explosives, back to the facility. During the drive, they debate Batman’s influence on Gotham, with Allen criticizing their role as errand runners for a vigilante while Ramirez defends his positive impact. Allen announces his intent to leave the unit, prompting Ramirez to stop in a vacant lot for a confrontation. They become entangled in a conflict between rival mafia leaders Yuri "the Russian" Dimitrov and Sal Maroni. After Maroni hides behind their patrol car, the Russian destroys it with a rocket launcher, forcing the detectives to escape. Batman rescues Allen, eliminates the Russian and his men, and kills Maroni when he threatens Ramirez. Recognizing the officers as Gordon’s picks, Batman praises Gordon’s judgment before vanishing.

Batman tests a gyroscopic deflection device during a gang confrontation
Jul 8, 2008Lucius Fox constructs a gyroscopic electromagnetic device to deflect small-arms fire after a Wayne Enterprises satellite accident. Bruce Wayne attends a charity golf tournament hosted by Ronald Marshall, where he discusses the death of activist Teresa Williams. Later, as Batman, he hijacks boats owned by Sal Maroni and Yuri "the Russian" Dimitrov to force a truce. Using the new device, he attacks both gangs simultaneously. When Maroni’s man fires at him, the bullet deflects and kills Anton, a member of the Russian’s crew. Distressed by the outcome, Batman takes Anton to the hospital. He subsequently returns the device to Fox, explaining that it works too well and insisting that such lethal power must remain solely under his control to ensure it is used responsibly.

Batman and Gordon investigate a cathedral riot involving Cardinal O'Fallon and Killer Croc.
Jul 8, 2008The Gotham City Police Department responds to a riot at Gotham Cathedral where Cardinal O'Fallon was preaching. Eyewitnesses report the Cardinal was abducted by a large lizard-like monster into the crypts. Police Lt. Jim Gordon and Major Crimes Unit detectives Crispus Allen and Anna Ramirez investigate. Gordon briefly speaks with Batman, who theorizes the Scarecrow's fear toxin caused the riot, noting the doctor has been at large since the Narrows riot during Batman Begins. Batman provides Gordon with an earpiece and descends underground. A homeless man in an abandoned subway station identifies the abductor as Killer Croc. Batman and Gordon discuss Croc's past before Croc appears under the influence of fear toxin and attacks Batman. Batman defeats him but sustains a bite that transfers some toxin to him. Batman finds Cardinal O'Fallon on trial for death by the Scarecrow, who is displeased with the Cardinal's aid to the homeless. Batman intervenes, sparking an explosion using room methane to destroy water pipes and flood the area, enabling his escape with the Cardinal. The Scarecrow escapes, and Gordon arrives in a helicopter to retrieve the Cardinal, offering help. Batman declines, saying "Maybe next time," and flies off into the night.

He also recalls Cassandra, a woman cast out for disguising as a boy, who taught him to control pain for months. After Bruce defended her from harassers using martial arts, she dismissed him, noting his pain drove him forward. Now in a gutter below his penthouse, Batman finds guns in garbage. Butler Alfred arrives to help him out, but Batman refuses, holding the weapons.

Deadshot assassinates a socialite and meets his client, who warns that Gotham is changing and suggests targeting James Gordon to help Russian associates. Deadshot dismisses the risk, but the client remains concerned. Batman assists Detective Crispus Allen in protecting Gordon, using data from Ronald Marshall to track Deadshot. Batman anticipates the attack on the Gotham L Bridge and pursues Deadshot on a moving train. Despite Batman's efforts to deflect the bullet, he is shot and falls. Deadshot reveals the true target was Batman all along. Batman recovers, destroys Deadshot's weapons, and captures him. Bruce hands Deadshot to the GCPD, reflecting on his lifelong struggle to stop the bullets that killed his parents, before seeing the Batsignal.
