6 ene 2004In the dead of night, an F-Zero pilot finishes up on a bit of carefree driving and is hit by a spotlight once she exits her machine. This is the famous singer, Kate Alen, and Jody Summer has been asked by her manager, Gordon, to protect her after she began receiving threats. Kate tries to brush it off as her manager being a worrywart, and being the work of nothing but overenthusiastic fans. Jody tells her why this is serious: the threats are from Zoda, wanting her to win prize money for him, but she's refused. Darn right she refused, Kate Alen works for no one! Jody leaves, saying the Galaxy Mobile Platoon will arrange protection for her before she goes; Kate is miffed. She hates having decisions made for her. The next morning, Rick and EAD are visiting where Kate Alen's next concert will be held and find Gordon, a diminutive little creature in a smashing suit. He's impressed the Galaxy Mobile Platoon responded so quickly; being tight with director Tanaka obviously has benefits. Gordon elaborates on his relationship with Tanaka: "I get him concert tickets and he fixes my parking tickets." The two are led to Kate's dressing room to serve as her bodyguards. For so-called policemen they're quite unusual looking, and she asks to know what department they're from; that's classified information. She's unhappy with the situation, but she doesn't fight it. She's got a show to perform. She sings to a packed audience, Love Rules the Universe, but the Platoon are too busy securing the area to appreciate it; Jody sits in the parking lot while the rest are keeping an eye on the crowd. Rick and EAD have the backstage covered, though the robot is sitting watching Kate perform from behind the curtain. He's concerned the robot has dozed off, but he's simply enjoying the song. Rick admits he never liked it, feeling it's lacking soul. After the show Kate and her bodyguards return to her mansion, though the singer tries to sneak out for a spin in her Super Piranha. Rick and EAD forbid it, but Jody appears to call them off, letting Kate know that she's their superior and she's free to roam wherever she desires as long as they'll keep tabs on her. She demands to know what police department they work for, but she's told she doesn't need to know that, and not to worry about it. EAD moves aside and Kate is allowed to leave. She takes the highway overlooking the city, with the whole Platoon following closely after her. EAD wishes to know why she was allowed to leave, but Jody tells him just to follow his orders. The singer leaves the city and enters the beach, rolling down her windscreen to enjoy the fresh air...only for armored gun-pods to appear from over the dune! Bio Rex and Octoman open fire on the vulnerable Super Piranha, but EAD guards Kate's machine with his the hull of his Great Star. They quickly veer off, pursued by the rest of the Platoon, while EAD attends to Kate, whose machine is wedged in the sand. He takes her back to her mansion, where she has a chance to express how scared she was. The others can track down her attackers, but EAD's number one duty is her safety. Kate is touched by the robot's loyalty, and rewards him with a peck on the cheek. A bit flushed, EAD leaves to return to his post. Although...little did he knew she was just faking her waterworks. As he makes his way to the front garden, an unseen assailant suddenly sticks him full of volts, knocking him offline! Rick returns just in time to hear Kate scream, and he and Gordon find her cowering in the living room; someone was here, she cries. The two follow the open window to the garden and find an awful sight... EAD lying in pieces! Come morning, the robot's body is returned to base and patched up by Clash. The good news is he was merely dismantled with no signs of damage; rebuilding him wasn't an issue. The bad news: EAD's memory core is missing. Everything he sees and hears is recorded in there, a lot of it confidential; there's no way it should fall into the hands of outsiders. While Stewart mulls over why EAD was attacked when Kate should have been the target, Jody considers that whoever assaulted EAD was looking specifically for information on who they are. And they know one person who's been desperate to find out. What a backstabber! Rick enters Kate's room to find her studying the memory core. She returns it, glad she finally knows who these people are: they're that police division who try to prevent Zoda winning F-Zero prize money. Rick is miffed, as was Kate since she claims them responsible for Zoda going after her! Though, he said EAD risked his life for her, and this is how she repays him? She thinks he's getting a little upset over a simple robot, and makes her leave; she and Gordon have work to do. Meanwhile, Jack is upset he wasn't the one to confront Kate; he could've gotten her autograph! Better luck next time, says Lucy. Before Kate's next show, she finds EAD sitting backstage at his usual post. She asks if he remembers what she did to him, and if he's upset over it. EAD shakes his head without a hint of malice. This frustrates her, but Gordon tries to rush her to the stage - the fans are waiting! She grumbles that she hates singing, and EAD asks her why: he thinks she's a magnificent singer. Kate claims robots wouldn't understand, before making her way to the stage. The Platoon are summoned to her dressing room afterwards and told she doesn't wish to be protected anymore. They're not protecting her for her own safety, they're using her as bait to lure out Zoda, and that criminal wants to use her to win prize money - she's sick of being used! EAD tries to calm her down, but she storms out. Gordon is particularly upset by this; Kate was an innocent girl with a real passion for singing when her career began, but the manipulative side of show business left her distrustful of others and bitter of her talents. For all her fame, she must feel incredibly lonely. A crew member suddenly bursts into the room; Kate's machine has left the parking garage! The Platoon split up to look for her, covering her mansion, the seashore and the race track. Kate, meanwhile, feels like a weight has lifted from her shoulders; she's free to go anywhere and do anything. Unfortunately, a familiar vehicle slows down in front of her...Zoda's Death Anchor! He tries once more to offer her to work for him, but she boosts ahead, saying he can use her if he beats her. Her path is soon blocked by Octoman and Bio Rex, who quickly put her machine out of commission. The Super Piranha in flames, Zoda asks her one last time: will she work for him? She refuses once more; she'd never work for criminal scum like him. Well, if there's no chance of convincing her...then there's no loss in killing her! Before Zoda can stab her, using a neon green glowing blade in the 4Kids dub, Kate is pulled to the ground: EAD to the rescue! Jody and Rick pull up and try to arrest him, but Zoda zips away with the two in pursuit. Kate is confused; if Zoda is their target, then why is EAD staying behind with her? As a robot, he may be a tool to be used by others, but he himself would never treat anyone that way. Kate is touched, and takes his hand...but EAD falls to the ground, a huge gash in his back from Zoda's knife. The Dragon Bird and White Cat are hot on Zoda's tail, until he boosts away, Octoman and Bio Rex arriving to stop them from pursuing. Zoda laps around to where he left the Super Piranha, and prepares to squash Kate into roadkill. EAD rises to his feet once more; he made a promise to protect her, and he'll do everything to accomplish that, even if it destroys him. The robot braces for impact and grabs the front of the Death Anchor, his feet burying into the ground and his eyes blazing in red sparks. The machine's motor is going full pelt, and the robot's body is cracking beneath the strain, but neither are going anywhere. Kate cries out his name, but EAD needs a way to stop this thing. Pushing his strength to the limit, he lifts the Death Anchor up off the ground and topples backwards with a horrible crunch. His machine merely bruised, Zoda scoffs and drives off, while Rick and Jody stop at the scene...to find nothing left of their robot friend. Amidst the debris, it almost looks like his memory core survived the impact...but it too shatters the moment it's touched. Rick is furious; this is how far EAD went to protect her, but Kate is finally aware. She lifts a fragment in her hands as tears roll down her cheeks. Clash has done his best to restore the robot's body, but with the memory core completely unsalvageable, EAD will be back to factory settings. Awakening again, EAD introduces himself to the Platoon as if for the first time, and he also forgets his encounter with Kate as well. She finishes up her latest performances and returns backstage, almost expecting to find the robot waiting for her. Gordon invites her out again for an encore, and she agrees: she'll sing EAD's favorite song...for a very special friend. Watching the show on the screen, Rick asks the robot if he remembers anything. 20 ene 2004On a dark and misty night, a lone F-Zero machine prowls the empty warehouse district. Inside one of those warehouses, Octoman and Bio Rex are busy playing (and arguing over) a game of cards. Only in the thick of their argument do the two suddenly notice the mysterious pilot watching them nonchalantly. Octoman hurls the cards at him, and the pilot shoots a hole through the center of every last one of them. Bio Rex takes his turn at attacking, but before he can even lunge, more laser fire is shot his way...and all his teeth are knocked out. Humbled, the two lackeys stumble backwards in fear...only to be swamped by micro chips leaking out of containers, apparently also the dirty work of this intruder. Zoda is stirred from his office to see what all the commotion is about, but upon seeing who it is, he realizes all is well: it's only the merciless gun-for-hire, Pico! He had hired him previously for the terrorist threat against the F-Zero committee, and it looks like he needs his help again... Zoda's data chip operations have been foiled by the police with frustrating consistency these days; it's a lucky day if he ever makes it back to base. If he is to move unhindered, he needs to put away whoever's organizing these snares. He assigns Pico his target, Director John Tanaka, and the assassin is away before Zoda can even finish his sentence. The two goons are concerned what Black Shadow will think if he fails; who cares about Black Shadow? Zoda's only after money, nothing else. John Tanaka, the very image of professionalism and commitment, is fast asleep at his desk, lost in a dream of romancing his secret love, Kate Alen. His daydream is interrupted when Jody reports that the police have captured another of Dark Million's transports. That'll put the pressure on 'em. A mysterious deliveryman enters the police headquarters with a package for Director Tanaka; the guards offer to hold it for him, but he claims he can't leave without the director's signature, company policy. Unbeknownst to them, this is Pico in disguise and his parcel is a time bomb just waiting to go off. The hitman can barely hold back his smirk. Even while awake, Tanaka can't stop dreaming about Kate: he preens himself in anticipation for her concert tonight and dreams of making her chief of police, just so he can hear her gorgeous singing anytime he wants. He's just about to smooch all over her poster when a knock at the door sends him scampering to his desk. Fearing it's Jody, he's relieved to find it's the deliveryman. Pico sets the parcel upon his desk, and John mulls it over never expecting a package, wondering whatever could be inside. "I think it'll blow up." Fearing the director already knows, Pico turns to leave only for John to call him back. He doesn't want this giant parcel cluttering up his desk, and tells him to take it away. The hitman is sweating, anxiously awaiting for the ball to drop, when John opens his desk drawer...Expecting to have a gun drawn on him, Pico drops the parcel and legs it out of there, leaving poor Tanaka bewildered. Doesn't he need his signature? Jody passes Pico rushing down the corridor, and orders him to stop and turn around. The hitman obliges...and sheds his disguise, nearly roundhouse-kicking Jody. She dodges and fires a shot from her blaster, but Pico dives out the window and sails away to safety on his parachute. There's no chance of her catching up, but more importantly that parcel is still in the director's office! Jody barges in and tells him to get rid of it, John chucking it, Jody tackling him to the ground, which the package rolled out just before it explodes. Jody announces for the security to arrive at the director's office. The other Platoon members (Lucy, Jack, and EAD) rush in to check if everyone's all right. Tanaka expects them to embrace him, but rushed passed him towards Jody; Jack said Rick is already out pursuing the parachute in his Dragon Bird. Tanaka just moaned since he didn't have hs men's attention. Pico drops from his parachute atop some poor schmuck's car, hijacking it with the Dragon Bird hot on his trail. Rick weaves between cars, some battered aside by the hitman in an attempt to slow him down. The assassin begins firing slugs into Rick's windscreen, boasting it's gonna take more than that to stop the Dragon Bird! But after a couple shots, eventually the volleys shattered it. This slows him down long enough for Pico to drive off the side of the highway and land atop a Dark Million battle station, flying him to safety. He asked who is this guy? Rick returns to headquarters, none the wiser on who the perpetrator was; though Jody mentioned it was Pico in the English dub. He's sorry for losing him, and the group suspect their raids on Zoda's data chip-smuggling must have prompted this attack on Tanaka, as a ways for them to surrender. Dr. Stewart arrives to tell them he's identified the attacker: Pico, an ex-soldier turned hitman, and talented assassin of the galaxy. "He's extremely intelligent, and ruthless. Once he has a target in his sights he won't give up till he hits it." Fearful for the director's life, Jody and EAD take Tanaka to a new office where they believes he'll be less of a target, and gives him 24-hour protection. This is awful! He can't leave, he can't sleep here, though Jody says he'll use his chair like he does in his office - and he won't be able to see his beloved Kate! He tries to keep it a secret from Jody, though he approaches the window and points dramatically - no matter the obstacle, he'll get to her somehow! "He spotted me instantly..!" Pico said outside with his machine gun drawn and seen thru the lens. Alone in his room, John Tanaka sobs over his poor luck: he only spent forever getting his ticket and finally freed up his evening, and he can't leave his room until his attacker is caught. Surely there's some way he can leave without being detected? His eyes turn to the empty boxes from his office. Of course! The postal service! In the warehouse district, Zoda is loading up more truckloads of treasure en route for Port Town. A cruise ship is docked there and the goods will be loaded aboard; the police won't suspect a thing! Octoman is thrilled by the idea. "Our luggage would be the data chips. And we'll sell them off planet. You are a genius, Zoda." "I know..! I know!," Zoda cackles. What they don't suspect is a parcel from the police station is also destined for the same cruise ship...and inside it is John Tanaka! This is brilliant, a totally flawless plan. Sometimes you gotta think inside the box, he thinks...until he realizes he can't get out. His struggling causes his container to fall out of the truck and shatter, right in the path of an incoming taxi. He hops in instantly and asks the driver to take him to Port Town. "I can't believe it. He must have figured out Zoda's scheme." Pico narrowly avoids being recognized, and asks his passenger why he's visiting Port Town. John answers he's there to meet a very important person, saying he's waited a long time for this opportunity, and nothing'll stop him. Fearing they've been sassed out again, Pico readies his pistol in one hand, "He knows. He's warning me not to pull any tricks. If I'll try to blast him, he'll get me first." At the station, Lucy apologizes for letting John slip her by, and the group ponder where he could be. Jody remembers him mentioning something about a concert. There was a flashback, and Lucy mentioned Kate is singing tonight. Rick remembers she'll perform at the Port Town Star Cruiser tonight, and the singer had invited him and EAD to a dinner performance on the Port Town cruise ship. Tanaka's friends with Gordon so he's also been invited. He fears no matter where he goes, Pico would spot him and it'll be too late. Jody offered to go aboard. Meanwhile, Pico has readied his sniper rifle upon the crowd entering the ship, but can find no sign of his target: the director has blended in with the crowd. He's good. Reporting in to Zoda, Pico tells him this John Tanaka is one slippery customer, more canny than they ever suspected: he knows their every move and is already on-site, waiting to strike. Zoda can't believe this, neither would Bio Rex since Pico said he's alone: this guy's trying to take them on as a one-man army? And they've lost track of him?! The director has finally made his way to Kate Alen's show, and is having a peaceful, relaxing time at the lavatory. It was worth all the trouble. Zoda and his men make immediate preparations to put a stop to their nemesis, while John Tanaka is busy fantasising about his favorite singer, dreaming of what it'll be like to smooch those lovely lips after the show, and even make a good duet. Suddenly, a set of slithery tentacles wrap around him and Octoman drags him away! The Galaxy Mobile Platoon arrive on the cruise ship, and failing to find the director among the crowd at Kate's show, split up to go look for him. Jody instead finds a Dark Million robot enter a door in the basement, and she calls for backup. But Octoman and Bio Rex are waiting for her! One kick is all it takes to send the squid-man out for the count, and his spraying of ink blinds Bio Rex, causing him to run into a wall and knock himself out cold. Tanaka, meanwhile, is strung up and mocked by Zoda as if he was acting scared since he's tough as nails, Pico narrowly missing him for his antics. The director is scared out of his wits and upset he won't meet Kate backstage. They've humored themselves enough, and Pico is ready to put the poor sap out of his misery...when Jody enters, zapping the gun out of his hand. Rick and Lucy show up as well; the director had hidden backup this whole time! Rick clobbers the robot minions, Zoda throwing more of them his way so he can make his escape. Jody unties Tanaka, but Pico has unfinished business with the two of them, and draws his pistol on them. Unfortunately for him, he immediately slips on the ropes, tipping him backwards and knocking the crates over the rest of Zoda's robots. Foiled and humiliated, the Dark Million goons hop aboard a truck and make a getaway, while Pico sneaks away through a vent, unseen. Ironically, Zoda said they hadn't seen the last of him; however...that'll be explained in a moment. The whole affair taken care of, Tanaka wonders what all the chaos was, Jody said they just got the stolen data chips back, and Rick sworn they'll capture Zoda next time. Lucy wishes to know what prompted the director to come here, either to catch the concert or Zoda; reluctant to admit his selfish reasons, he boasts he knew about the scheme this whole time and came to stop it himself. Jody is blown away - the fact the concert's been sold out for weeks and how Tanaka knew of the scheme before Zoda committed it...maybe she was wrong about him! Kate Alen and her manager come rushing up, and Tanaka welcomes them with open arms...but she's here to see Rick since EAD couldn't make it, she was still pleased he came and gave him a peck on the cheek. She has no idea who this other bozo is and wants him removed, though Gordon came with his ticket. Kate apologizes, John is heartbroken. Finally, Kate, Rick and EAD spend some quality time on the road the next day... with John in his Wonder Wasp far behind, still pleading for Kate's attention and never getting her autograph. 27 ene 2004In the secret space headquarters of Dark Million, Miss Killer announces her plan for the sake of the audience: she's looking for a pilot dumb enough for her to manipulate, but talented enough to make her efforts worthwhile. She quickly finds a suitable candidate... Super Arrow makes a dramatic entrance in a sports stadium, eager to hear the fans applauding the arrival of their most capable hero...only to find the place completely empty. His owl, Zukk, reminds him there's no events on today, though that doesn't stop him: he begins calling for his fans to make a similarly dramatic entrance. Instead, he finds the stadium is being used - Rick is practicing some drifting, and the superhero admires his passion but frowns on his technique. Hopping into the King Meteor, he bursts onto the track to show him how a real hero drifts! Unbeknownst to them, Miss Killer is observing their drifting technique. When they're done, Rick has Lucy give her evaluation; he needs to work on controlling his machine while drifting, as it just ends up spinning out beneath him. Having held her end of the bargain, Rick promises to take her to dinner afterwards. While driving home, Super Arrow sees every superhero's one weakness: a crying woman! He gets out and introduces himself, and his bombastic boasts are enough to bring a smile to her face. Her concern is no less troublesome, though: her father was once a builder and designer of F-Zero racers, but owed money to some unscrupulous businessmen before passing away, leaving her with his debt...and his last machine. Super Arrow wipes her tears (with a Super Arrow brand handkerchief) and suggests, if she already has an F-Zero machine, why not race it to win prize money? He'll even personally train her to the highest degree! The girl is overcome with his generosity, and wants to find out how she can thank him. To Super Arrow, that is of no concern, his only wish is to turn her luck around; and he's married, by the way. He realizes the girl has not introduced herself. Her name? Sophia. This should be a really bad sign... Meanwhile, Rick and Lucy are out on their dinner date to the swankiest place in town; he cringes at the sight of the prices, though Lucy sees something interesting: isn't that Super Arrow sitting at that table with another woman? She gets excited at the thought of witnessing some juicy gossip material - a superhero with a mistress! - but Rick is shocked when he turns around. Is that Miss Killer?! While excusing himself to freshen up, the superhero is ambushed by Rick and Lucy. They tell him that his dinner date is among Dark Million's ranks and not to be trusted. Although he values his friend's input ("When did you two become friends?" Lucy asks), Super Arrow believe it is his duty to help the poor woman no matter what, and leaves. They drop it and take it up with the rest of the Platoon; they don't know what Miss Killer would want with a subpar racer like Super Arrow, but it bears keeping a close eye on. After his date, Super Arrow ponders what he could teach Sophia to turn her luck around...perhaps that technique Rick demonstrated at the stadium could help? He dreams of transforming it into the "Super Arrow Typhoon Spin", a devastating attack that will sweep the opposition off the track, clearing the way for the plucky damsel. He vows to practice until that fantasy becomes reality. Rick and Lucy visit the Falcon House to ask Burt for any info on Super Arrow they could use. Clank tells them the boss is a busy man who can't waste time with idle questions...though he's free to answer them, whipping out his wrist-mounted computer. According to his databases, the superhero is deathly afraid of his wife - could they use that to help dissuade him? Speak of the devil, Super Arrow enters to tell them all of poor Sophia's plight, and why he must do all he can for her. Rick's attempts to convince him holds no mustard, but since he's been so patient, Super Arrow asks for his help: can he teach him the ways of the Typhoon Spin? Rick is baffled at first, but declines - he's in this alone. Super Arrow leaves in the King Meteor...unaware that the Queen Meteor is watching his departure. Uh-oh... He takes to a practice track and tries his hardest (despite his Zukk's critiques), only for Sophia to appear: would he be willing to try her father's technique? She shows him a demonstration - it requires two racers to boost side-by-side, while a third racer drives in between. The residual energies will propel the third racer far ahead at immense speeds - just like a sandwich, Super Arrow deduces. He dubs this technique the "Sandwich Burst", and the two set to attempting it. The residual energies are a powerful thing, however, and the two machines have difficulty even staying close before it throws them against the track's barriers. Super Arrow isn't willing to give up, no matter how battered his machine becomes. What they need to master the Sandwich Burst is another slice of bread! The superhero sheds tears for his machine's bruises when he's alone repairing it. Rick and Lucy arrive, shocked that "Sophia" was responsible for such damage. Super Arrow doesn't want to hear them say such things about her, and instead offers Rick to become a part of his glorious sandwich. He still has no idea what he means when he returns to the police station; Jody informs him he may have to battle his "friend" if it means preventing Miss Killer from winning. The Gobida Circuit begins after the announcer warns the audience of what dangers await the pilots - extreme temperatures, treacherous sandstorms and more - before the lights turn green and the racers are off! The King Meteor and Moon Shadow stick close the entire race, and the Dragon Bird and Astro Robin aren't far behind to keep an eye on them. By the penultimate lap, a sandstorm begins to approach the track...and Rick is wondering what Super Arrow and Miss Killer have planned. Jack Levin cares not one whit and boosts on ahead, roaring his way to the front of the pack. The Dragon Bird fights to overtake the King Meteor, when Super Arrow tells him his time has come to become the slice of bread. Still baffled, Rick boosts ahead - just as planned - and Super Arrow lines up on his side, paving the way for the Moon Shadow to boost between them. Miss Killer drops her ruse, thanking the big lug for being so blindly cooperative, as the Sandwich Burst rockets her machine forward at impossible speeds. Upset he's been manipulated in such a manner, the Dragon Bird boosts to catch up, the King Meteor doing likewise, trying to calm him down. This is Sophia's race to win! What the two don't notice is a third racer boosting alongside them... it's Mrs. Arrow! Her Queen Meteor helps create another Sandwich Burst, hurling Rick's machine forward at similarly ludicrous speeds. Super Arrow asks his wife why she did such a thing. "For justice, darling." BUSTED! The sandstorm finally sweeps the course, reducing the track's visibility to zilch. Blinded, machines begin colliding with one another, causing chaos on the track. Rick catches up to Miss Killer, but the sandstorm and their uncontrollable speeds are a poor match-up, and the two hit the barriers and fly clean off the track, sliding to a halt next to a cliff. Rick exits his machine to berate Miss Killer - did she think she could get away with manipulating Super Arrow like that? Yes, quite easily, actually - a Dark Million battleship rises from the canyon, picking up the Moon Shadow and its pilot before ferrying them to safety, Miss Killer's laughter drifting through the wind as she makes her escape. On the bright side, Jack Levin was the only pilot left standing to win the race! Super Arrow and Mrs. Arrow have a little talk after the race; the husband apologizes for his actions, but his wife assures him he acted like a true hero, doing what he thought was right and noble. He's pleased to hear such compliments, though he still expresses sorrow for failing Sophia. That's why Mrs. Arrow loves him; his kindness is immeasurable. Even on this bumpy track, he kept his machine under control with ease, showing no signs of stress...though the Dragon Bird has seen better days. Miss Killer is vexed - she has to know what his driving technique is like! Rick returns to the Galaxy Mobile Platoon headquarters to great acclaim, but is lightly scolded for treating his machine so roughly. It's a small sacrifice towards snatching victory, he claims, but Clash interrupts to say it's in serious need of a repair. Jody lets him have the day off, which is fine by Rick - he's got a hot date scheduled today! He leaves, and Lucy can barely hide her jealousy. In the meantime, Jody assigns the other members to investigate a rash of classic car thievery going about. In his garage, Rick is hard at work fixing up his own classic car - one and Clank had picked out from a junkyard - when he notices he's missing a few vital parks. Conveniently enough, Clank pops by to lend a hand and makes a list of what they need and where to source it. Clank snaps a few photos of Rick, eager to add them to his album. He shows Rick his pet project - a homepage dedicated to all the F-Zero pilots, where Rick is the star attraction. Elsewhere, a classic car sits parked on the street...but not for long! Octoman sneaks up and wriggles his tentacle through the window, unlocking it and allowing him to drive it away. He drops it off with a used car salesman, oblivious that Miss Killer has been watching the whole ordeal. On their quest for parts, Rick and Clank visit Mute City's only outlet for classic car parts, and the ace pilot makes a tit of himself by fumbling with some tires. The salesman approaches, knowing a classic car enthusiast when he sees one, informs him of some rare new parts he's just received, but that's not what they want. They get their parts and leave. With those installed and a few minor adjustments, the car's engine finally roars to life - a success! The two celebrate with Doreyo mango soda and try to think of a name for it. Considering it the Dragon Bird's little brother, Clank names it the Dragon Egg, before Rick reminds him this is way, way, way older than an F-Zero machine...so they dub it the Dragon Ghost instead. Formally christened, the two hop in and give the Dragon Ghost its first drive in years. Meanwhile, Octoman is using his newly-earned cash to gorge himself at King Burger, when Miss Killer sits down before him. So, the slippery cephalopod has made a car-stealing ring, has he? Octoman begs her to keep this hush-hush - this is his living, and if Zoda knew about it he'd take all the earnings! In exchange, she demands a favor. Rick orders some burgers through the drive-through (frightening Octoman and forcing Miss Killer to quiet him) before he and Clank visit the park. Clank mentions he's been reading up on Rick's accident 150 years ago, and the top pilot asks him to look up Haruka Misaki, his old girlfriend. Clank's search doesn't return much info: She was born in 2030 to a fashion designer and a diplomat, but Rick already knew that. She quit being a race queen after his accident...and that's all it says. The entry stops there. The two ponder wistfully; maybe she left New York and lived out her days in happiness somewhere else. Clank wishes she could have been put into cold sleep so the two could be reunited, though Rick doesn't want to get hung up about it - the two return to the car...only to find the tires have been slashed! Who could have done such a thing? They fill them up as best they can and return to the car part store, finding a saleswoman is covering for her boss. They ask for new tires, and the woman warns them about a car thief going about, joking that their flat tires will keep them safe. But they didn't mention the flat tires...! The two apply their new tires and are ready to go, when the saleswoman offers them an anti-theft camera as a free gift. Clank remarks how friendly she was after they leave, but Rick reserves his suspicions about her for now. If only they had known the store owner had been bound and gagged! ...And that the woman was Miss Killer in disguise, now using the dashboard camera to spy on her arch nemesis! Rick finally voices his queries, and given how the tire slashing was so recent, they deduce that the saleswoman must have been the culprit. Clank exits the car to investigate. Meanwhile, Miss Killer signals Octoman to follow her plan. Another car suddenly pulls out in front of the Dragon Ghost - it's Octoman! He taunts Rick over his tires before racing away, but he underestimated how fast the other car is - the Dragon Ghost is in hot pursuit! Clank nips around the back of the car parts shop, finding an underground garage filled to the brim with classic cars! As he's snooping around, a set of headlights flash up behind him and he narrowly avoids being run down by the Moon Shadow, which quickly exits the garage. Rick is still on Octoman's trail, and it's a thrill he hasn't felt in a long time - the sense of being close to the ground, a firm set of tires carrying your machine. It's an irreplaceable sensation. He pulls some sick drifts while keeping close on Octoman's car, unaware that the dashboard camera is watching him. Octoman isn't having a good time - he's not a big fan of old-fashioned automobiles. Miss Killer directs him along the best paths to evade Rick, using lots of turns and hills, though her intention is not for Octoman's getaway, but instead to test Rick's skill and record his racing data. Frustrated with the traffic, Octoman mounts the sidewalk and roars over the hill...just as a cat is walking across the road! He brakes just in time and scolds the foolish feline, but Rick's got the drop on him, parking in front of his car. That doesn't stop Octoman, though, as he exits his vehicle and boards the Deep Claw. Now this is a machine he can handle! His machine darts away and turns down an alley, but cities aren't built for such fast machines, and he bangs against the wall before continuing on. Clank is busy checking his computer when he notices the Dragon Ghost is emitting a signal...and it's coming from the anti-theft camera! Despite his bumps, Octoman is cocky his machine can vastly outrun Rick's duff old antique...when he finds the Dragon Ghost is waiting for him up the road! It begins to charge at him in a game of chicken, and Octoman is too flustered to react...but he doesn't need to, as the Dragon Ghost tilts up on its two side wheels, avoiding collision by mere inches. Scared witless, the Deep Claw crashes into a wall, its pilot cursing Rick's name. There's no time to rest yet - Clank contacts Rick and warns him the camera is recording his every move. He chucks it out the window, and Clank tells him he knows where the data is being sent. At the lakeside park, Miss Killer's feed goes dead just before Rick barges in. He thanks her for the exciting day off before demanding to know why he was being recorded. She explains she's keen to know the reason behind his consecutive victories, and the data will be passed on to Dark Million for further examination. Before he can stop her, she drives off in the Moon Shadow - not even his Dragon Ghost could catch up to that. Returning to headquarters, Rick is praised for single-handedly solving the stolen cars case - and on his day off, no less! The man's yearning for justice knows no bounds. To cap off the day, Jack shows him Clank's F-Zero homepage where all the boy's photos have ended up - photos of Rick fixing cars, eating burgers and tripping over tires now grace a heartfelt tribute to the racer Clank respects the most. 10 feb 2004Director Tanaka has a mission for Jody Summer: a research group were sent to investigate a transport ship that crashlanded on Sand Ocean, but have not been heard from since, along with an unrelated mining crew. Due to the ruins near where it crashed, they believe the area is cursed. Jody sets out to investigate... The transport ship is a dire sight. Totally empty with no signs of life, dust and debris lining the walls...and her footsteps are the only sound to be heard. A sound comes from behind her, and she's surprised at what she finds - it's a boy! She asks him the wherabouts of the ship's crew, and the boy informs her they've all been killed...by Zoda and his troops. More footsteps emanate from behind them, and soon a wave of Dark Million robots are chasing them. The two flee, and Jody aids their escape by launching an energy web at the robots from her blaster. Meanwhile, Rick storms into the Falcon House, evidently not the first person to ask where Clank has disappeared to. Burt answers he had "something to do," and Jack assumes he's probably out dating if he's been gone all night. Lucy reminds him the boy might be avoiding him after he said to him the day before. Yesterday, Rick had found Clank snooping about in his Dragon Bird, analyzing its machine data. Lucy had admonished him for looking without permission, but Rick called him a mischevious computer cracker, a remark Clank objected to strongly. Maybe he should not have been so judgmental. Urgent business from Dr. Stewart calls the three Platoon members back to headquarters, forcing them to postpone the search for Clank. His café empty, Burt removes his apron. In the White Cat, Jody asks Clank why he was in that vessel, who explains he ran away from home to get aboard the transport ship. He asks why an old matron like her is investigating this, forcing Jody to formally introduce herself; after Clank introduces himself, she tells him to buton his lip from now on. Bad news, however - Zoda's forces are in hot pursuit! And they're packing heat! They open fire on the White Cat, but Jody boosts ahead to gain some distance. The chase leads them to the ruins where Jody tries to lose her enemies amidst all the corners. They successfully evade them by hiding behind some rocks, and the two believe they're safe. Not for long, however - they're sitting on a great big pile of quicksand! Not even the powerful boosters of an F-Zero machine can pull them out of this one, and the White Cat is pulled under. There's been no word from Jody since Tanaka assigned her to the mission, and the director is most upset; what if she turns into a mummy? Really, Tanaka?!? How will he explain that to the chief?! Not to worry - Rick, Jack and Lucy are on their way to Sand Ocean, travelling through the warp gate. Jody and Clank find themselves in a vast underground pit, lined with the bones of man and man-beast alike - they believe them to be the remains of the researchers. A horrible roar rumbles from deep in the pit, and they encounter what they believe to be the real explanation behind the curse...it's a bleedin' great scorpion thing! And what's worse, this is its nest! Jody lets loose with her blaster, but the shots have no impact whatsoever on the beast, even as it gets closer and closer...until it's looming right over Jody! A sound suddenly rings out, sending the beast stomping back to wherever it came from. Clank tapped into the White Cat's gravity direction separator, which, conveniently enough, uses the exact same frequency that the space scorpion uses to know it's not wanted. Jody is impressed by the boy's solution, and wants to know who he really is. Clank deems it unimportant. The two have a cave to explore! And what a cave! Gaping pools of fiery lava; impressive walls of steep rock; pits lined with spikes and traps that breathe fire. With a little bit of cooperation, the two get through the ordeal...and finally make their way back to the surface. Meanwhile, the three others have caught up to the transport ship, finding the robots Jody had blasted earlier, but no other signs of Dark Million or Jody. The Platoon wonder what would have brought the criminals here - but more importantly, what could be so valuable to them to prompt such an attack? The two survivors camp out in the ruins until morning, Jody watching the fire while Clank sleeps. The boy asks her if anyone would miss her if she died and was never found again...because he knows he wouldn't be. He's alone, and no one would grieve his loss. Before she can respond, the boy is fast asleep. Jody, in a brief flurry of maternal feelings, imagine what life would be like if Clank were her child. She tucks him in, and Clank unconsciously holds her hand, tears welling in his sleep. She accidentally notices a strange object stored on Clank's wrist computer...and not far away, the two are spotted by Zoda's sentries. Come morning, Clank wakes up to Jody reprimanding him, informing him that the object he had came from the transport ship, and she wishes to know what it is. Clank snatches it back and fesses up - it's a computer virus he made back when he was Zoda's hacker-for-hire, but the reason he got aboard the transport was to reclaim it and use it against Zoda. Unfortunately, Zoda wishes them good morning with a rocket launcher aimed at the ruins. The two leg it, but he and his Death Soldiers are there to give chase - and they haven't the White Cat to save them this time! Clank falls, but Jody raises him to his feet, visions of her as the mother he never had assisting him. However, running can only take them so far - there's an impassable gorge just ahead of them, and Zoda quickly have them cornered. He asks for one thing and one thing only: to have the virus returned to him. Imagine the planet-shattering destruction and mayhem he could cause with this thing! Jody tries playing dumb, but Clank offers to return the virus so long as Jody goes unharmed. Zoda promises, and takes the virus from him. Surprise! Zoda's a bit fat liar and aims his gun at Jody anyway. Clank tries to wrestle it from him only to get tossed on his arse - but he managed to gank the virus back in the process. Zoda is shocked for all of two seconds, before he realizes he's going to shoot him and take it from his corpse anyway. He fires one shot...and Jody takes it in her shoulderpad, blasting her and Clank back across the ground and off the cliff! He cries out over losing the virus, but even more trouble has come his way: Rick Wheeler and company have come to stop him! Zoda sics his robots on him, but Rick sets the Dragon Bird into a spin, spraying sand all over the robots' windscreens...allowing Jack to fly over a hill and crush them before they know what's coming. Lucy does the same trick, spraying sand over an escaping robot's windscreen so it crashes straight into a wall. Rick pursues Zoda, but the villain reminds him his allies have just fallen over a cliff; what will he do about that! Mercifully, Jody is holding onto Clank and has a handle on the cliffface...but given the strain on her cybernetic arm, she might not last for long! Suddenly, a cable is thrown over the cliff, allowing the two to climb up to safety. At the top, they find no one holding the cable; only a pin holding it down emblazoned with a falcon. The Platoon catch up to her, relieved she's safe, and are curious what Clank has been doing on this little escapade. While tugging the White Cat out of the quicksand, Clank has had enough of the trouble the virus has caused, and stomps it beneath his feet. His cracking days are over. He turns to Rick and offers him some enhanced data for his Dragon Bird that'll help it perform better; he apologizes for using it without permission (and the time he stole it, for good measure), and Rick apologizes for calling him a cracker. Jody is safe and the White Cat has been retrieved, so their business is done here. Rick offers Clank a ride as the Platoon prepare for a friendly race home, but Jody tells the boy he lied to her: he's not alone, he's surrounded by friends who love and care for him. 17 feb 2004On the passenger warp gate to Earth, two peculiar lifeforms announce their ambitions in unison: to become the greatest villain the universe has ever seen! They deduce the quickest way to accomplish this would be to work under Black Shadow...but they have no F-Zero machine, nor the money to afford one. However will they make money on Earth...? In the Falcon House, Lucy is enjoying a selection of cakes when Rick and Jack begin calling her out on what a greedy gord she is. Even Clank gets in on fat shaming her by displaying the amount of calories in each mouthful, but Lucy refuses to fall to their unkind pressuring. She's enjoying this cake, and no ramifications will come of it! Back at headquarters, Lucy screams in horror: she's gained six pounds! The scale's gotta be lying, surely. Afterwards as she's bringing a part to Clash's garage, she overhears Rick and Clash talking in disbelief over the six pound weight gain. Clash says he likes it, but Rick hates it, saying he can't stand anything heavy. In actuality, they're talking about some adjustments to the Dragon Bird...but Lucy doesn't know, and is morally ashamed of their comments. She bumps into Rick exiting, who helps to her feet but remarks she feels heavier. That's the last straw - Lucy runs out in tears, begging to be left alone. She heads to the park and begins pushing herself to exercise. Jogging, skipping, sit-ups...but she gets exhausted quickly. Maybe she's not cut out for this. She's suddenly set upon by two aliens who have heard of her plight, and have just the solution for it - the Bobo Bag, a backpack filled with expensive crystal that improves her muscle tone and induces weight loss! Just don't open it, though. Lucy is over the moon until she hears the price...but there's only two left and it's guaranteed to work. How could she miss out? Back at the police station, Rick meets Lucy again and notices she's sweating. Wearing the Bobo Bag, she remarks she's on a strict diet and exercise regime, and Rick remembers his comments earlier; he tells her not to worry about it. He'll still be rooting for her efforts and leaves, but Lucy's excitement causes her to drop the Bobo Bag, busting it open. It's full of plain old stones! Marching back to the park to give them a piece of her mind, she notices a lot of park-goers carrying strange-looking golden goblets - another scheme from the two aliens. She shows them the bag and its contents, and they explain the crystals turn to stone once they're exposed to air...but that doesn't mean she's out of luck! These golden goblets allow whoever drinks from them to lose six pounds of weight! Now, about the price... Lucy returns to the Falcon House and orders a drink in her goblet, boasting about its properties. Clank is shocked at the price and bets it's a scam...and he'd be right. The goblet has scuffed just from washing, and it's just an ordinary cup beneath its gold paint. Lucy returns to berate the two, but is interrupted when a contraction is plopped on her head. It's the Diet Helmet, said to stimulate mind and body alike! Now, about the price... Lucy ends up falling for every sale the two propose - the Dream Fulfilling Pot, the Magic Shoes, the Super Quilt, all pitched to help bring about the trim, healthy bod she's been dreaming of. Her latest purchase is the duo's special Tea, and she brings it to the rest of the Platoon excited about its potential. Thankfully, Dr. Stewart is on hand to sample it and give her his expert opinion: this stuff is bunk. She just bought some ordinary tea. Vexed something fierce, Lucy finally storms down to their office and slams the door open: she has a complaint to make! The place is empty. Hearing voices from the back, she barges in there and finds Gomar and Shioh arguing over spare parts, blaming each other for breaking them. Upon seeing her the two hide in fear, begging to know what she's come down here for. Lucy, however is distracted by the subject of their argument: they're building an F-Zero machine! Asking to know where it came from, the two give a sob story: their parents died when they were young, and the two have scraped by on odd jobs and pennies all to accomplish their dream...to build an F-Zero machine. Lucy is moved to tears. The two bemoan their machine's critical flaw: the machine can't fit two people, but the two act as one; it's not unlike dying should the two of them separate. Lucy looks over their machine and notices its flaws, but that should hardly stop them from racing. She wants to make their dream come true, and she'll build it herself if she has to! The two are taken aback by her kindness. At the Galaxy Mobile Platoon base, Jody shows the group a report of two criminals, Gomar and Shioh, leaving planet Huckmine to build an F-Zero machine, and are wanted for fraud across the galaxy. They don't know if the duo are working for Zoda, but to be safe, Jack and Rick are to keep an eye on them. The two ponder if those are the two who've been scamming Lucy for so long. For that matter, they haven't seen Lucy in a few days. What's she up to? The two set out to look for her when they run into Clash, who hands them some parts to give to Lucy if they find her, as she's apparently fixing up somebody's machine. Then that means--! Lucy could be in danger! The two rush out into the city to track her down. Lucy, Gomar and Shioh all set to work on her specifications for their ship, and with a bit of sweat and elbow grease, finally having a finished machine in their hands! The ship is light to compensate for the two pilots, but the two are moved to tears by her dedication to their plight. "It would be great if all F-Zero pilots were like you", she remarks, wondering why Dark Million must be a blight upon the sport... The two jump at the mention of the name. She says it again, and the two begin sweating. She catches herself on - there's no reason two little guys like these should know of a criminal organization or its leader, Black Shadow! Lucy begins the final touches on the machine as the two step outside for some fresh air. Gomar and Shioh sigh in relief - that was a close shave. This is only their first step towards being the world's greatest villains; Black Shadow is their idol! They would love nothing more than to work for him, but they would need to win a few races before catching his attention. Unfortunately for them, Rick and Jack see them and demand to know where Lucy is. They try to catch the Furikakes, but the aliens are too wriggly and send them on a wild goose chase before ducking back inside their office. Gomar and Shioh are nowhere to be seen, but Lucy is working happily on the machine and takes the spare part from them. Now it's complete! Rick and Jack are impressed with her handiwork...as are Gomar and Shioh, who hop in and make their getaway. Lucy stops her allies from following - they can't take their dream from them! - and is impressed at how fast it is. Rick and Jack can't believe Lucy for what she's done. At the Falcon House, she praises herself for her good deed while the others try to inform her that the two are fraudsters - they effectively robbed her a few days ago! That's a non-issue to her now, they were only trying to accomplish their dream. Speaking of their dream, they'll be participating in tomorrow's race! Before the race, Lucy stops by to give Gomar and Shioh her support, and also a quick tip: the booster on their machine is fragile, so it can only be used twice. The race begins, and the Twin Norrita is instantly ahead of the competition, its zippy acceleration whisking it ahead of the pack. Rick catches up to them, eager to keep them from winning, but one boost from the duo's ship leaves the Dragon Bird in the dust. Unwelcome to newcomers, Bio Rex and Octoman team up to try and squash the duo between their machines...but another well-timed boost leaves the two villains colliding in an explosive wreck. Can nothing stop Gomar and Shioh? It's the final lap and the Dragon Bird and Astro Robin are on the leader's tail, but still unable to put a stop in their progress. Lucy is overjoyed - Gomar and Shioh could very well be champions by the end of this race! Rick overtakes with a well-timed boost, sending the duo into a panic...and they perform a third boost, decimating the Twin Norrita. Lucy did tell them of their machine's limitations, but it's too late now...their dreams are over! Rick takes first place, and after the race the two scam artists are led into police custody. Lucy comes rushing up to them, wishing them the best on making up for their mistakes and finally reaching their dream...and if they ever return to racing, the Twin Norrita will be waiting for them! The two are taken away with smiles on their faces, and Jody approaches to praise Lucy for building such a remarkable machine: she awaits the challenge of facing it herself sometime. At the Falcon House, Lucy orders another of her favorite cakes, only to be told she's out of money. Burt offers it to her on the house when Clank reminds her, isn't she supposed to be on a diet for Rick's affections? Forget him, Rick's a chump. Elsewhere, he bangs his head on the hood of his Dragon Bird. Okay, so he doesn't bang his head at the end - he sneezes. This is a joke in Japanese culture where if someone sneezes unexpectedly, it's because someone, somewhere, is talking about them. (thanks, Nintendo Direct!) There's some sort of joke where Gomar and Shioh say "you'll catch a cold" after Lucy offers them her help (and rolls up her sleeves - don't tell me that's the whole gag?!); I assume the same joke applies, that Lucy will make such a name for herself everyone will be talking about her and giving her the sneezies. 24 feb 2004In the blizzard-strewn stretches of White Land, Super Arrow does battle with another competitor on the race track. The two machines strike their hulls together as they fight for the lead, a nasty corner looming on the horizon...and the King Meteor is knocked off the track, crashing into the snow below. Super Arrow can think of only one thing: his wife calling his name. At the Galaxy Mobile Platoon base, Jody briefs her squad on the upcoming race at White Land - the track is at the foot of a mountain, and numerous accidents have occured in the past because of avalanches. The only safety measure are barricades in areas routinely struck by snowstorms...aside from that, the racers are on their own. Still, difficult races result in tremendous prize money, so the Platoon aim to give this race their all. On White Land, Mrs. Arrow is trawling the course in her Queen Meteor, thinking back to a dinner with her husband: Super Arrow admitted he was not going to be participating in this race and refused to say why, walking out solemnly despite her pleas. In response to this, Mrs. Arrow is scouting out the track, getting a record of every threat and treacherous element it will have in store for them. Elsewhere, Zoda is first inspecting the planet's weather control system before reporting in with his Death Soldiers, who are searching for buried treasure: the snowstorm has made it difficult for them. Zoda suggests they'll need to alter the weather - they want to be doing this before the race draws attention to the area. However, they observe an F-Zero machine nearby - the Queen Meteor! She's done all that she came for, so being chased by robots is no issue. Her machine is more than enough to outrace them. Zoda's Death Anchor leaps from overhead, roaring down in an attempt to crush her...and the shockwave sends Mrs. Arrow spiralling out of control, her machine plunging down a deep chasm. That's one troublemaker taken care of; Zoda orders his robots to prevent anyone else from approaching the weather control system. At the Falcon House, Rick is chugging back a coffee when Burt comments on how dangerous the upcoming race is; Clank remarks the planet uses man-made winds and weather modification to increase the danger. Super Arrow makes a surprise appearance, coming in all celebrations and smiles...before slumping into an awful gloom, asking them if they've seen his wife. This is the second time he's come asking for her; she left without a word and he's lost without her. He apologizes to Clank for showing a superhero at his weakest - the unflattering side of the envoy of justice - when his owl suddenly receives a faint and weak SOS from Mrs. Arrow! No matter how much he shakes his owl, Super Arrow can't get in touch with her. Given the signal, Clank presumes the call came from a distant planet, and it's just as the hero feared: she's gone to White Land. He confesses he hasn't the will to attend the race tomorrow, but when pressed for an answer he reveals why...it's just too darn chilly! However, his wife went there after his failed attempt to learn the track, so it's only right if he mans up and saves her. And Rick can help him out, right? He sighs. The two arrive at White Land and begin exploring, scouting out the mountains and calling her name, but to no avail. Super Arrow writes her nickname on his windscreen, thinking of her fondly... He receives a call from Rick, who's had no further luck finding her. He asks why she would come to this place, and Super Arrow gives an answer to a different question: when he had his fateful crash his last time here, he would have died in the ice had Mrs. Arrow not come and rescued him. He suddenly receives another owl-transmission from his wife, weakly asking for help and mentioning Zoda's name...he must be the man responsible! The two resume their search. Deep in the chasm, the Queen Meteor remains trapped in the snowfall. Mrs. Arrow is cooped inside, trying to keep warm off the last of her machine's energy, but even that is trickling down to nothing... While Super Arrow fumbles in the snow, Rick sees Zoda and his men passing by on a high mountain path. What could they be up to? Returning to the weather control system, Zoda laments they'll never find the treasure in their current state, and they can't return to Black Shadow without a reward! Their only option is to disable the weather control, stopping the snowfall. While driving along the mountain, Rick and Super Arrow find themselves in the path of an incoming avalanche! Rick uses math to solve this dilemma - if an avalanche's average speed is 255 km/h, then pushing their machines to max speed should help them evade it! They get through safely while Zoda curses from the clifftop. He was sure that would've worked. His robots continue to detonate charges, causing even more avalanches to erupt along the path, but they're no match for the speed of the Dragon Bird and King Meteor. The two encounter their next obstacle - the path ahead is like polished ice, not unlike a skiing lane. Super Arrow has his concerns, but there's no other option, they've gotta take it! The two manage to conquer the path, giving the superhero some confidence, before arriving safely at the bottom. Super Arrow sends his owl, Zukk, to go search for his wife, and to tell her his courageous husband is on the way! Rick warns him that Zukk will probably attract the attention of Zoda - Super Arrow cares not. He would do anything if it helps his wife return to him. Poignancy aside, Zoda and his troops immediately zone in on them. Rick is prepared to take them on alone, but the King Meteor charges at them headfirst. This is his battle! It doesn't go well. After watching Zoda knock Super Arrow down a hole, Rick thumps the robots' machines aside with some slick spinning. The King Meteor falls only a short distance, and its pilot disembarks...only to find himself stepping out into a bloody gaping pit! He ends up falling into it, but lands harmlessly only to find exactly what he wanted: the Queen Meteor! He calls her name but gets no response, and cranks open the cockpit, holding her in his arms...and her eyes finally open. "Darling!" The two embrace, relieved the two are safe and happy to be in each others' company once more. Zukk can't bear to watch. Mrs. Arrow is impressed he came this far for her sake, and on his own, no less! However, isn't he afraid of the cold? "I'm not cold..." "I'm back in business!" Meanwhile, Zoda's Death Anchor is in the middle of pushing the Dragon Bird off a ledge...not even it has the power to fight back! Super Arrow arrives in the nick of time, pushing the Dragon Bird aside and leaving the Death Anchor to zoom right off the cliff. Rick is happy to hear Mrs. Arrow over the transmitter, the two reunited. Zoda, on the other hand, is pretty miffed, and he turns the weather control back on to bring snowfall, hoping they'll all just freeze to death. However, an engine noise is heard in the distance, and it's coming closer...it's the Blue Falcon! Captain Falcon tosses him a package before getting the heck out of dodge - it's a stack of dynamite, and its detonation completely obliterates the weather control system in a spectacular explosion. Rick and company watch the destruction, and see the Blue Falcon making its exit. The official White Land race is about to start; the weather control system may be history, but Jody still warns the Platoon of potential avalanches. The race begins, and the Dragon Bird and King Arrow are fighting for first; they may be friends, but the gloves are off when it comes to racing! As warned, an avalanche rains upon the track, but all the racers pass through without injury. The course leads to a twisting track high over the mountains, and Rick and Super Arrow continue to battle for dominance...only for a new racer to toss their machines right off the track like ragdolls. It's the Queen Meteor! Marooned on the rocks, Rick pins the blame on the superhero's poor racing etiquette - you don't overtake on a winding road, you dunce! - but at this point it doesn't matter. The winner is announced from the loudspeakers, and it's Mrs. Arrow! To her husband, this is an incredible victory, and it wouldn't have been possible were it not for him! Kate Alen vs. Mrs. Arrow! - and explaining it to Rick, who's confounded by the very idea of an F-Zero race just for women. It only occurs once a year, but whoever wins is crowned Miss Galaxy, a most glamourous title! Jody won it last year, but Lucy's got her sights on it this time. The Ladies Race doesn't go ignored in Dark Million's space base - Black Shadow doesn't even need to ask Miss Killer to participate, she's already got it in her schedule. If she wins, her master declares he would be happy to leave Mute City in her capable hands, a remark that really rankles Zoda. Even at the Falcon House the Ladies Race is on everybody's lips! Being crowned Miss Galaxy is a title most girls could only dream of, and Clank and Jack are smitten with the thought of all the lovely ladies taking part. Burt reminds them just because they're women the race is going to be easy - they're just as nasty as a regular F-Zero race, if not nastier. Mrs. Arrow finishes up some practicing with the help of her husband, who's a little put-out at the thought of the big race. Super Arrow fears if she's crowned Miss Galaxy, he'll be too insignifcant to garner her affections. That's hogwash, she says, and the two reaffirm their love for each other...but Zukk squawks in surprise--and the two find themselves surrounded by a group of Death Soldiers! This is no one-off incident. Kate Alen silently vanishes after one of her performances, and Lisa Brilliant's space pirate ship, the Excellent Queen, comes under attack from a Dark Million battle station. Kate's manager, Gordon, comes to the Galaxy Mobile Platoon about her vanishing, sharing his grief with super fan John Tanaka. What's most confusing of all is that no ransom demands have been sent. Dr. Stewart informs Rick and Jack that whoever's performing these kidnappings must have their sights on Jody and Lucy, so the two of them will have to act as bodyguards. But dudes can't join the Ladies Race! Lucy has just the answer: Crossdressing! In a Dark Million holding cell, Lisa Brilliant is thrown in among the other prisoners: Kate Allen, Mrs. Arrow and Super Arrow. Miss Killer delights in getting rid of her competition, but Zoda isn't far away with a snide remark, laughing that she can't even win without cheating. Miss Killer reminds him she'll be his superior soon - he might want to be nicer to her. The Platoon board their spaceship, the Galaxy Runner, on their way to the Ladies Race on Beach Star when Jody finally sees her bodyguards. You can think Dr. Stewart for the re-tailoring. (EAD won't be assisting, sadly) Rick and Jack investigate the garage, trying to keep an eye out for any suspicious figures (and keep their eyes off the female mechanics) when a screen displays one of the participating racers: Miss Killer! Not far away, the Platoon aren't the only ones pulling this charade: Zoda has entered Octoman and Bio Rex into the race to prevent Miss Killer from winning, each in their own ill-fitting dress. Unfortunately, the four outsiders bump into each other, surprised their rivals are participating and they begin criticizing each others' attire, attracting the attention of the mechanics. They quickly pull high-pitched voices and apologize, hoping they weren't sassed out. Lucy and Jody are busy preparing their machines for the upcoming race...when Miss Killer snatches Lucy and holds a knife to her throat! She demands Jody to forfeit the race, otherwise she'll kill the "Useless girl". Lucy argues she's not useless, she's won a race before, back in the Crystal Cup. Miss Killer argues that was pure fluke. Rick and Jack appear with their pistols drawn, but Miss Killer throws Lucy at them and makes her getaway. Jack gives chase, but snaps the heel off his shoes and fails to catch her. Lucy isn't hurt, but her ego is - that's a low blow, criticizing her victory like that! Octoman and Bio Rex were there to witness Miss Killer's attack, and they're ready to give up - they're not tough enough to stand up to her! Zoda is most displeased when this is reported to him; there's no way he's going to lose rule of Mute City to a cheating dame like Miss Killer! Meanwhile, Super Arrow is tired of sitting in a jail cell, and puts his super heroics to good use. He grips the doors and begins pulling, successfully sliding them open -- and encountering a mob of robots waiting for him. They pummel him and throw him back inside, Mrs. Arrow eager to attend to her husband. Kate Alen calls Super Arrow a joke of a man if he can't get them out of a jam like this - the race is due to start at any moment. Lisa Brilliant recognizes Kate Alen and is disgusted she's taking part - why would a famous diva who's already got everything need yet another title under her belt? Mrs. Arrow tells them to cool off, but she gets shouted down. All she does is attend to her husband; she's even worse than that useless dope! The guards outside are destroyed and the cell door sliced to ribbons - Samurai Goroh to the rescue! He's shocked at what he finds inside - the three women arguing and pulling each others' hair, even going so low as to criticise the dryness of their scalps. This was not what he expected to find. The women are freed in time to have their machines ready on the starting grid, and there's already feuds brewing before the race begins - Lucy vs. Miss Killer, Kate Alen against Lisa Brilliant. Rick and Jack are intrigued to see how the race pans out. The race begins and Kate's Super Piranha and Lisa's Panzer Emerald are out in the lead, already banging their machines against each other. Only one of them's gonna make it to the finish line! The Queen Meteor takes after the Moon Shadow, seeking revenge against Miss Killer...but Mrs. Arrow falls off the course following a sharp turn. Lucy vows to pick up where she left off and challenges Miss Killer to a stand-off. The Moon Shadow races off without so much as acknowledging her. "Why do you look down on me?" If words won't attract her attention, then showing her what she's capable of will! Lucy pulls a plunger in her cockpit, launching panels off of the Elegance Liberty and exposing hidden weapon caches! Jody begs her to obey the rules of the race, but Lucy's gone off the deep end. She launches a cluster of missiles from her machine (Clash is impressed!), all aimed at Miss Killer! The Moon Shadow narrowly evades the blasts, while Mr. Zero reminds the audience that military warfare is against the rules of F-Zero - Lucy has been disqualified! Kate Alen and Lisa Brilliant are still having a bit of a scrap, but Kate comes out on top, putting the Panzer Emerald out of commission and giving her the lead. Lisa's not going down without a fight - she summons the Excellent Queen down from space to drop bombs upon the track, eventually launching the Super Piranha off the track. Pirate ships are against the rules! Mr. Zero disqualifies Lisa, but is nearly struck by a missile for his troubles. Rick and Jack are flabbergasted - this isn't a race anymore, this is war! With four racers out of the equation, the Moon Shadow is now in the lead, but a new machine quickly advances from the rear: it's Zoda! He's taken matters into his own hands, but Miss Killer isn't taking this sitting down. She slows down and gets behind the Death Anchor before boosting, ramming it into the dirt. Launched out of his machine, Zoda narrowly avoids the incoming racers and is exposed for his trickery: men aren't allowed in the Ladies Race, "even if you look like a girl!" That wasn't his only trick; making a signal with a magical girl gesture, a Dark Million battle station suddenly looms over the race track, raining laser fire on everything below! This can't keep up! If this madness continues, Mr. Zero will have to announce the race's cancellation! This vexes Miss Killer even more - all her work for naught! The White Cat finally catches up to the Moon Shadow and the two duel for first place, evading laser fire the whole time. Miss Killer tries to get under Jody's skin, calling her too cold and heartless to be a sufficient Miss Galaxy. She shows no response, but Jody has a retort lined up. Pressing a few buttons on her transmitter, the Galaxy Runner begins transforming and reconfiguring its hull, unleashing an enormous cannon! She equips the appropriate eye protection gear and unleashes the storm. The blast and its shockwave knocks the Moon Shadow clear off the course...and disintegrates what's left of the track. Mr. Zero gets the heck out of dodge, declaring the race officially over, and the stadium pulls out. "The conflict between women is brutal," Burt informs Clank. "You understand now?" The Platoon depart on the Galaxy Runner, while Lucy and Jody reflect on the race. It wasn't fair - Jody had that race in the bag before they cancelled it. The two are undeterred, and vow to try even harder come next year's race. The men are taken aback - there's going to be another race?! "God help us." (Source: F-Zero Wiki)

9 mar 2004The warp gate orbiting planet Earth is seeing its usual traffic of transport ships passing through. One such ship encounters some nasty turbulence, but it quickly subsides, chalking it up to the gravitational pull. What they don't know is the warp gate is damaged and sparking! Director Tanaka has orders to send the Galaxy Mobile Platoon to the warp gate to investigate and fix it. Jody fears for the safety of her Platoon, but F-Zero machines and their gravity drives are the safest option to access the warp gates' internals. If the warp gate fails, it might fall towards Earth; they're currently awaiting reports from another team currently up there. The first team have made their way to the warp gate, and have indeed seen the damage - this thing could fall apart at any moment! Unfortunately, the unstable gravity field crushes their machine to the size of a beach ball, killing the lot of them. Lucy reports to the Platoon that the investigation "failed" (that's one way of putting it), so they're up next. Rick's eager to take part, but Jack cracks wise about his age, saying an old relic like him would be no use to them; even Lucy's attempt at defending Rick ends up insulting him. He storms out, and EAD scolds the two for being so inconsiderate. He cools down in the garage by spending some time with his Dragon Bird. Clash enters, and Rick asks him about his machine - who made it, and where did it come from? The engine was handed down from the higher-ups, but it's otherwise a mystery. That resonates with Rick - two lost souls whose histories are misunderstood. The warp gate's state has worsened and all access has been closed off, causing protesting on the streets. While Jody takes EAD with her on a secret mission, Rick chills at the Falcon House and listens to Clank read the news reports predicting all the awful crap that's going to happen. He asks Rick if he has any inside scoop on this - he's an F-Zero pilot and a police officer, after all! - but Rick has nothing. He's just here to drink his coffee. Suddenly, a tremor strikes Mute City, blacking out all the electronics; even the information panels in the sky. Clank presumes this is a side effect from the warp gate's gravity malfunctions. Rick receives a call from headquarters: EAD has been gravely injured! While Clash fixes up their robot partner, Dr. Stewart reveals Jody is partially responsible for his damage. The Platoon believe Jody doesn't trust them with the assignment, but in actuality, she did not want them involved for their own safety. You see, she, EAD and the doctor had been up in the warp gate trying to resolve the problem... The three of them had planned to use the Sandwich Burst - the technique Miss Killer used a while back - to create radiant energy that would hopefully seal the Gravity Ring that's causing all this trouble. It would be risky, but being part-machine and EAD being a robot, she hoped it would be the least endangering option. Jody's White Cat led the way while the Golden Fox and Great Star boosted side by side, awaiting her to loop around. The Sandwich Burst generated energy more powerful than they could handle, causing EAD to spin out and crash in a fiery wreck, and Jody's machine to disappear through a warp hole! The Platoon are shocked by this news, and what's worse, there's no predicting where she could have landed up! Lucy tries examining the White Cat's recorded data, hoping that'll give them some sort of clue...but the data she finds is unintelligible to humans. Only a computer engineer could comprehend it. Meanwhile, Jody finds herself on an unknown planet and no communication with her allies. She begins exploring, hoping to find a landmark of some kind...and ends up discovering a whole fleet of docked Dark Million battle stations! She's quickly noticed and attacked by the robot sentries, and she makes returning fire as she flees. Zoda watches this from his command center and is most vexed; how did she find Dark Million's base of operations?! Rick calls upon Clank and brings him to the police station, taking him up to the highest floor, floor 179...and taking him even further, after presenting his ID to the elevator's security. Clank is confounded - then that means...this is the home base of the Galaxy Mobile Platoon, the Elite Mobile Task Force, and Rick has been a member of it this whole time! Clank is blown away; so this is why Rick is so cool! He's taken to the central computer, and he has no trouble at all adapting to it. He's left to his work - he needs to analyze that data to pinpoint where Jody is, otherwise they're never going to find her again. Speaking of Jody, she's got an entire crowd of robots and mechanical dogs hot on her trail. She narrowly avoids them by hiding in a river, but she can only keep this up for so long. The Platoon board the Galaxy Runner and approach the warp gate, ready to have another shot at the Sandwich Burst. Jack calls dibs on the middle and boosts ahead while Rick and Lucy maintain their parallel boost energies. They pull it off without injury, and it looks like they got a result - the gate returned to its ordinary color for a moment! However, it quickly turns back to a scalding red and resumes sparking. They need more power! The three put more and more power into their boosts, but they keep getting the same ineffectual response. Their machines are eventually left burnt out with no result to show for it, but Rick is desperate to continue - they can't give up now! They hear a sound, and a shape approaches from behind them... It's the Blue Falcon! Captain Falcon beckons Rick to follow after him, commanding him to disable his control system. Rick complies, and finds a brand new HUD replacing his ordinary dashboard! This alone gives the Dragon Bird greater boosting power; pleased, Captain Falcon turns and boosts the other way. "Boost Fire!" Jody is still fleeing from Zoda's forces, who wishes to capture her as a gift for Black Shadow. She eventually flees back to the White Cat but has no luck starting it...and finds herself cornered by an entire army of robots and hounds. She's in for it now. Meanwhile, Clank has finally cracked it - he knows where she is! As the Dragon Bird and Blue Falcon loop around, their machines clip, sending them into a hyper-powered spin state. On their second pass, the two machines clash into each other, rebounding clean off and producing a massive spark of energy - the Gravity Ring is being sealed! This is just in time for Clank to enter the coordinates into the repaired warp gate, granting Jody a warp hole to take her back to inside the warp gate. Back at headquarters, Lucy and Jack apologize for being so ageist towards Rick, but that's all water off a duck's back by now. Clank passes by, informing them he's made some coffee in the break room -- wait a second, who let Clank hang around?! Don't worry, he's not a squatter - Jody has made him an official member of the Galaxy Mobile Platoon, with his own key badge and everything. He's already proved useful to them, and is sure to be a great help in the future. He's miles ahead of the competition and gloating to Jack about his upcoming victory, when the Blue Falcon effortlessly sweeps ahead of him! Try as he might, Captain Falcon isn't letting him overtake, blocking his every move. Rick feels challenged - Captain Falcon saved his bacon the last time he met. Could this be another test? He boosts as they approach a corner, taking the lead on the inside...only for the Blue Falcon to drift behind him to his other side, securing the inside for himself! This surprise tactic throws Rick off his game and he spins out, allowing Captain Falcon to take first place, Jack Levin in second. Rick is embittered by his loss, reflecting on it long after the race is over. The Platoon try to urge him home, but Rick is unmoving. Lucy thought Captain Falcon was on their side, but after a sneaky move like that, she's not so sure. Clash reminds her Captain Falcon is a bounty hunter who's only in it for the money...but Jack remarks that Rick's becoming predictable. Taking the inside lane might sound smart, but his Astro Robin moves faster on the outside. They reassure him that his Dragon Bird isn't faulty, and in the replay they see just how impassable Falcon really was. Rick suddenly hops in his machine and drives off, eager to see how much he pales in comparison to the Blue Falcon. He tries the corners again, but no matter how he handles them, he envisions the Blue Falcon blocking his every move. Rick, Jack and Clank take the argument to the Falcon House, where Burt confesses he still hasn't seen the race. Rick knows he's fast enough to beat Falcon, but Burt asks him a question: has his driving technique remained unchanged since 2051? F-Zero machines do have safety features, you know. That's it! Rick remembers when he was told to disable the Dragon Bird's control system, showing its true power. Driving the safety features is like driving with the brakes on - without them, he'll have true control over his machine! Jack asks him if he's out of his mind - an F-Zero machine would go berserk without the safety reining it in! Rick has his mind set on it and leaves, thanking Burt for his advice. At the test track, Clash and Lucy are there to also warn Rick about what he's got in mind, but as far as he's concerned, it's his only shot at trumping Captain Falcon. He disables his control system, prays for the best and hits the accelerator. He immediately begins spinning like a buckin' bronco, applying the brakes just in time before he hurts them. Lucy and Clash call to say they told him so, threatening to withdraw their services on his machine, but that's not stopping him - he's eager to tame this beast! Rick hits the road again, his machine wobbling furiously while he tries to swallow his fear. He mananges to finish one lap, but Clash won't even tell him his time, it was that bad. It didn't hurt to try, though the two promise to help him out a different way...only for Jack to appear, calling him a big wuss for giving up so soon. What good is he if he doesn't give it his all? The two return to the track against Lucy's pleas, but they've got a point to make here and nothing will stop them. Rick tries to recall what he and Falcon performed back at the warp gate... He boosts and sets his machine into a wild spin, giving him a serious speed advantage - maintaining control is the tricky part! He loses his cool as he rounds a corner and the Dragon Bird loses its control, just as the Astro Robin tries to boost on the inside... The two machines crunch against the wall before the Astro Robin flips on its roof, grinding against the ground in a spectacular crash. Both machines are battered, but Rick is shaken by what may have happened to Jack! In the medical bay, he is slapped for what he's done to Jack, who also receives a scolding for facilitating this behavior. Jack remarks he only wanted to improve Rick's chances of winning...and Jody shares the sentiment, but the mission of the Platoon holds priority over their childish rivalry with Captain Falcon. Rick returns to the garage to examine the damage; Clash reminds him he can always fix the Dragon Bird, but human injury is out of his hands. Having examined what he was trying to do, he confirms that it's possible: spinning the machine with the power of its booster. The Spin Booster. However, it's so taxing upon the machine that it can only be used once per race before seeking repairs, and he doesn't recommend it either way. Losing control for only a second can have grave results, as Jack has shown them. Meanwhile in one of Dark Million's battle stations, The Skull is at work on his dark magic, seeking a means of defeating Captain Falcon. His cards suggest Jody Summer is the key to defeating him, and armed with the dark magic of his ancestors, nothing will stop him! The next big race is ready to begin at Wave Panic; Captain Falcon has his eye on Rick even from the starting grid, so the pressure's on him already. Jack calls in to wish him luck from the base, now well enough to walk on crutches. He tells Rick not to worry about his wellbeing, but to give this race 110%! Jody listens in to the conversation approvingly, but is oblivious that something has been planted on the underside of her White Cat - a magic card. The Skull has his trap set, it's just a matter of time until he activates it... The race is underway, and right from the beginning Captain Falcon has taken first place. Rick puts his pedal to the metal and whizzes passed the rest of the competition - faster than he's ever been seen before! He catches up to the Blue Falcon and apologizes for keeping him waiting, before going through the same charade as before - whichever way he goes, Captain Falcon is there to block him. Coming to the corner, Rick pulls out his Spin Booster, overtaking the Captain for one brief moment...before petering out and losing his spin, slowing down and falling a few positions. Jody kicks the man while he's down, telling Rick the Galaxy Mobile Platoon has no place for losers and he'd best leave if he hasn't a reason to race. This is just what he needs to ignite his racing spirit, and the two unite to give this race their all. Not far behind, however, is The Skull in his Sonic Phantom, who summons dark spirits into the card on the White Cat, turning it into a vessel under his control! Jody is shocked as the machine behaves on its own, boosting forward of its own volition to ram the Blue Falcon in its rear! Jody is powerless to stop it, and Captain Falcon is apparently incapable of moving out of her way, giving the Sonic Phantom the chance to slip into first place. Rick catches up to Jody and asks Captain Falcon to lend him a hand in stopping her, with her permission. The two box in the White Cat and push it towards the barrier, grinding it against the wall until it conks out, exorcised of its malicious spirits. The Blue Falcon resumes the race and Jody urges Rick to continue - he's obviously got a score to settle. It's onto the final lap, and the Dragon Bird is still eating Falcon's dust...he's got to win this race! Getting a little too close for comfort, The Skull sics a trio of lackeys to box in Rick and hold him back. They've got him cornered: he can't accelerate, brake or move to the side. This calls for only one thing: Boost Fire! He rockets ahead, the goons following after...only to plough right into his Spin Booster! The Dragon Bird spins like a top, gaining immense speed and knocking racers aside like tiddlywinks, ultimately nailing first place for himself. The Skull can't believe he lost at the last second, but Captain Falcon smiles knowingly. After the race, Rick wishes to talk to Captain Falcon personally, but he's a man of few words. He commends him on a great race, and tells him to "watch your boost timing." Jody catches a glimpse of him before he leaves, feeling like she recognizes him, but he's gone in the blink of an eye. It docks, revealing its curious octopus-inspired design, and its colonel steps out onto the platform. "Is this...Earth?" John Tanaka is in a meeting with the chief of the Galaxy Police, The Commissioner, who explains these are visitors from planet Takora. Their planet's government disagreed with the peace treaty from long ago and has been embroiled in bitter war ever since. Their visit is purely a sightseeing tour, but for political safety, the Galaxy Mobile Platoon has been entrusted with protecting them. Asked if he's up to the task, Tanaka states he's more than capable of it...but the moment he's out the door, he fobs the job onto Rick and Lucy. Meanwhile, Octoman receives an urgent call to the spaceport, but he and Bio Rex have no interest in being there. The Takora colonel and his fellow Takoraians finally find him and are overcome with joy, but Octoman tries to quiet them down - they don't know he's in a criminal organisation! The tentacled crowd thank Octoman from the bottom of their hearts for his generous donation to their planet, and will be there to cheer him for his upcoming race - that'll be his tenth consecutive win for sure! Bio Rex is confused and about to ask what they're talking about, but Octoman corrects them - this'll be his thirteenth consecutive win! Rick, Lucy and Tanaka are watching from afar, and Rick's getting riled up - that slippery cephalopod's a big fibber, he couldn't race his way out of a paper bag! Why haven't they arrested him for stealing those classic cars already?! The director reminds him that Octoman is a hero on Takora, being the only racer from their planet; arresting him in front of his adoring fans could spur a political incident. Rick doesn't give a toss, he's itching to bust that fish! Octoman convinces Bio Rex into cheering for him as well, and the two attempt a comedy routine, though it fails to impress the colonel. A hand slips onto Octoman's shoulder... "Hey, great hero." The fish tries to bail, but Rick holds him back and pressures him into owning up. The Takora people are aghast - who is this stranger, and why is he manhandling their idol?! Tanaka appears in the nick of time to remind him peacekeeping is their utmost objective here, and introduces himself to the colonel, stating the Galaxy Police will serve as security during their visit. The Takoraians are overjoyed - they're being treated like kings, and it's all thanks to Octoman! "Thank you, director! Many thanks!" "Don't touch me." The colonel presents Octoman with a medal, and the Takoraians tell Tanaka and Rick of how generous their hero is; were it not for him donating his prize money to their planet, Takora would still be in an impoverished and inhospitable state. Rick begins to change his tune towards the villain; maybe he's not so bad after all. Bio Rex, Octoman and the three Platoon members escort their tour bus to the hotel, which Octoman paid for out of his own pocket. But he owes people money, and he's still got a welcome party to pay for... Rick is eager to ditch this gig and go to the test track, but Tanaka reminds him this is of the utmost importance. John's got his own concerns, though; for starters, he hopes the Takoraians don't trash the hotel! Well, close enough. They're crawling over anything and everything, having an absolute ball. This is the best they've ever been treated! The hotel staff and poor Lucy just have to grin and bear it. Outside, Octoman begs Rick's cooperation, to leave him be until the Takoraian guests return to their planet, "promising" to surrender after the race. Anyway, does Rick know where he can bum some cash? Octoman offers to trade him his medal, a rare Takoraian treasure sure to be worth a packet, but Rick objects. Who would trust that slippery cephalopod?? Tanaka approaches the two, also asking Rick for money; he's got none to spare, and he's got a twenty-year mortgage to pay for. He finally obliges to spare the squid some dough, who's incredibly grateful. The welcome party is set outside the Falcon House, and the Takoraians have another grand old time. Burt is pleasantly surprised that Octoman has so many fans, but Clank doesn't trust him; his father told him "liars keep on lying." Octoman boasts that Captain Falcon will be participating in the next race, but he'll be no match for his sweet squid skills. Burt tells him the Captain won't be participating in the next race: even better! Saves him the trouble of embarrassing himself! Clank asks Burt how he knew this. Oh, just a hunch. In Dark Million's space base, Black Shadow is giving Zoda another tongue-lashing for being such a useless peon. If he doesn't win the next race, Miss Killer will be taking his place in the ranks. The next Grand Prix is about to begin, and the stadium seats are packed with visitors from Takora, cheering the loudest for their hero. However, Octoman is begging Zoda to allow him to win this race; his fans are counting on him! Zoda's got his own neck on the line, so he's in no position to lose; he tells the squid to do what he always does, hang back and fend off anyone who poses a threat. The race begins, and the announcer informs the audience of a last-minute cancellation: Captain Falcon will not be participating. So Burt was right! The White Cat and Astro Robin lead the race, but Zoda and his two henchmen aren't far behind, hitting the first boost pad. Zoda orders Octoman to hang back and guard his rear, and he agrees reluctantly...before handing that task to Bio Rex. Not far behind are Rick, Lucy and John Tanaka, making a rare racing appearance in his Wonder Wasp; they've got to keep an eye on Octoman and their Takoraian guests. The leading racers enter the next lap and run through the repair zone, refilling their ships' energy. While squaring off with Jack Levin, Zoda orders Bio Rex to slow to a crawl and wait to ambush him on the next lap. Rick abandons his post and boosts to catch up with Jody and Jack - they need his help! While briefing his lackeys on their objectives, Zoda offers Octoman all of the prize money if he helps him win. That ticks him off - he'd rather win this race himself! He boosts ahead and takes the lead, his boss demanding he return to his position. Meanwhile, Bio Rex gets the signal and knocks Jack Levin clean off the track. Octoman shuts off his communicator; he doesn't care about Zoda, he's winning this race for his people! He enters the second-to-last lap in first place, miles ahead of the competition. He's gotta win this, he can't fail now! The rest of the racers suddenly begin flying passed him with ease. He's out of power! He chugs slowly through the repair zone, the gap between him and the lead growing wider and wider as they reach the final lap. It can't end like this...! The Wonder Wasp makes a surprise reappearance, boosting passed the rest of the racers and catching up to Zoda. He tries to take on the Death Anchor head-on, but Zoda zooms ahead, summoning Bio Rex to do the dirty work for him. The two machines begin clashing, but they both begin to spin out of control! The Big Fang crashes into Zoda, the Dragon Bird comes crashing into John, the White Cat into Rick's rear, and so on until the entire roster is left in a smoking pile-up...allowing the Deep Claw to chug between the wreckage with ease! Octoman is the winner! The people of Takora can't believe it - they got to witness just another of their hero's brilliant victories! Clank, meanwhile, can't believe what a debacle that was. Burt thought it was a sweet surprise - it ain't over 'til it's over, after all! Octoman earns his trophy and wins a loving celebration from his people...but also receives a thrashing from Zoda. He stole his victory, and there's no prize money left for him?! In the Falcon House, Clank is keen to report that Octoman paid his debts in entirety for the Takoraian's visit, which they commend him for; the slimy cephalopod did keep his promise! Even better, the leftover money was given to the Takoraian visitors, who spent it all on snacks, treats and garish souvenirs. At least the money isn't in Dark Million's hands. Its captain, Lisa Brilliant boards and demands the treasure to be handed over. The transport chief refuses, but that must mean it's of incredible value, so she snatches it and leaves. While Lisa admires her prize, another ship watches her departure unseen. It's Bibirichi, and he's plenty upset - that was his target! News of this reaches the Galaxy Mobile Platoon, and Dr. Stewart explains why this is a big deal - the object was the Reactor Might, an ancient device of unknown origin, said to generate untold quantities of energy, enough to destroy an entire planet. Its existence has been a guarded secret until now, and Lisa Brilliant wasn't expecting to find it. Hopefully she won't know what it is until they reclaim it...but first, they need to find her! Tracking it won't be easy; space pirates obscure the electronic transmissions from their ships, so they can't be traced. Rick has an idea, and hops into the Dragon Bird towards planet Cryton; perhaps Samurai Goroh can lend his assistance. The Reactor Might doesn't go ignored by Black Shadow either, as his two minions Zoda and Miss Killer bicker for the opportunity to track it down. Black Shadow is generous enough to let Zoda get the job, despite Miss Killer reminding him of his terrible track record. Elsewhere, Bibirichi and his gang are starving - they haven't had a profitable raid in ages, all because Lisa Brilliant keeps beating them to the punch! They receive an unknown transmission and put it up on-screen... It's Zoda! He sends an open message to all denizens of the galaxy, offering a hundred-million space credits to anyone who reveals the location of Lisa Brilliant. This is just what the poor schlubs need! Lisa isn't far from their current location as they prepare to get in touch with Zoda. Rick finally arrives on planet Cryton, and drives towards the town once more. Samurai Goroh is in the midst of grinding himself some tea when Rick barges in to his abode, apprehended by Sasuke and Hakuun. Goroh permits him entrance, but asks he take off his shoes first. He knows why he's here, but cannot help him; he might know where Lisa is, but the traditions of their families forbid them from interfering with each others' work. Rick pushes the issue...and nearly gets a blade to the neck. Goroh reminds him he's a pirate - he has no interest working with the police, and if he weren't an acquaintance, he would have slain him where he stood. Still, he respects Rick, and asks why the two had never crossed paths before; Goroh is told of his stint in cold sleep, something he never knew. Rick laments feeling like a relic, lost in a future where no one understands him. Goroh points to items around his chamber: his sword, that vase, this caligraphy, all items that have been passed down from generations nearly a millenium ago. Compared to those, Rick's still young - the first time he's been complimented on his age! Telling him he should live without regrets, the samurai urges him to quit the police and become a pirate...he'll tell him where Lisa is if he does. Lisa Brilliant, meanwhile, is being hounded by Birichi and his scummy gang, when a Dark Million battle station approaches! Bibirichi's craft grabs a hold of the Excellent Queen, allowing Zoda to board and point a gun at her, demanding the Reactor Might. The space pirate was expecting this, and the Reactor Might is already being jettisoned in an escape pod. It arrives at Samurai Goroh's abode, and he and Rick enter his underground base to retrieve it. However, they receive a ransom from Zoda: hand over the Reactor Might, or else his wife gets it! Rick calls Jody back at headquarters to tell her he knows where Lisa is and is requesting backup; the Platoon board the Galaxy Runner while Clank tracks down where Rick currently is. He asks Goroh if he really believes Zoda's word, but the samurai isn't concerned about that; if he doesn't go, Lisa will die. That's all that matters. They board his spaceship, the Fire Needle...as the ground beneath the town opens up, revealing a launch pad for his craft to take off. They approach the Dark Million space station and dock, disembarking in their F-Zero machines. The two are greeted by Zoda and Bibirichi, who demand he hand over the Reactor Might. Goroh refuses to until he knows his wife is okay. Zoda raises his pistol, and Rick does the same...but they'll get nowhere at this rate, and Rick and Goroh are forced to drop their weapons. Meanwhile, Lisa looks out of her holding cell to see Bibirichi's men guarding the door. She pretends her cell is too hot, requesting some fresh air to be let in. The grunts blindly obey, and get clobbered for being such horny pups. Goroh is still refusing to hand over the Reactor Might, despite suffering several blasts from Zoda's gun; he wants to see his wife. Rick tries to reason with them, but the samurai holds him back - even if it costs him his life, he will never show weakness to an enemy. Rick makes a dive for his gun, but Zoda blasts it away. Lisa calls from behind them, demanding Zoda to back down or Bibirichi snuffs it. Zoda doesn't care about the little peon - heck, he might as well dispose of him personally! Amidst the distraction, Goroh grabs his sword and knocks off Zoda's aim, but gets shot some more in return. Lisa rushes to her husband's side, but this has gone on long enough... Rick shows Zoda the Reactor Might before hopping in the Dragon Bird and driving off, forcing Zoda to chase after him. They race through the battle station's corridors before Rick stops at the command room, calling Jody again - he needs backup, fast! The Galaxy Runner isn't far away, but Rick's communicator suddenly goes dead. He takes a blast to the shoulder, wounding him as he slumps against the wall. Zoda can't believe his luck - he's got his archenemy just where he wants him, and the Reactor Might in his hands! Rick has the gun pressed against his head, Zoda's anxious to see him sweat in fear, but he remembers what Samurai Goroh told him: no matter what, you must always stand and fight. A surprise lunge knocks Zoda to the ground and his gun out of his hand, but he's not out yet! He draws his knife and stabs at Rick who does his best to dodge, but while they're fighting, the Reactor Might begins to glow...unleashing its energy! The entire station's electronics begin to spark and a shockwave knocks the two against the far wall, as the whole place begins to fall apart. Bibirichi and his men scarper, but Samurai Goroh hops in his Fire Stingray, despite his wounds, and races down the corridor. He finds the Dragon Bird abandoned and Rick unconscious, and he carries him to safety. Zoda awakens afterwards and lifts the Reactor Might, managing to seal it again. He makes his exit in a battle station, gloating over his prize - with this, Black Shadow will be at his mercy! Goroh is reunited with the rest of his crew, and they escape on their ships with Rick and Bibirichi's men just before the entire space station explodes. While Bibirichi and his men are held captive, Rick and Goroh have their wounds treated. Rick awakes, and the samurai is disappointed that his first words aren't thanks for being rescued, but to report in to the Galaxy Mobile Platoon: the Reactor Might is in Zoda's hands now. Chase after him! Exhausted, Rick collapses to the ground. Goroh smirks. "If you join me, I promise you many days like today." He declines; he prefers being among the living. Despite that, he gives it to her to present to Black Shadow. She complies, but is suspicious; Zoda clearly has something planned. Rick is still recovering from his last encounter with Zoda, but he's in no mood to rest - Zoda is still out there, and he's still got the Reactor Might! At the moment, Clank is the only one with the skills to track him down, so until then all they can do is take it easy; Rick especially. That dope should be in the medical bay in his state. Black Shadow is presented the Reactor Might, and Zoda accepts his praises through video feed, but getting a simple "well done" isn't what he's here for - he's here to tell Black Shadow he hates his guts! He's an arrogant, egocentric boss who should have been dethroned long ago, and Zoda has just that in mind! He has a present for him... He presses a trigger, causing the Reactor Might to unleash its energy...and in a matter of seconds, the entire Dark Million headquarters is annihilated. Not even a speck of debris remains of it. Black Shadow is dead, and Zoda is now the leader of Dark Million! His first order of business: a giant ice cream sundae! It's quickly delivered to him...by none other than Miss Killer! Black Shadow looms over Zoda's throne, scaring the bejeezus out of him. But how did he survive? Simple. Black Shadow is powerful enough to contain the energies of the Reactor Might. His space station, however, was not, so he summoned his Black Bull and the two of them escaped in it. He advances towards Zoda, reminding the little runt that he will never defeat him. He tries to scramble away, but Black Shadow picks him up by his ankles and shows him another usage of the Reactor Might: grinding it into his abdomen. Zoda howls with pain as the energies charge through him, leaving him weak and shriveled - Miss Killer can barely look. Black Shadow drops him to the floor in a heap, telling him he should be thankful for this tremendous gift. Meanwhile, Rick is eager to do something - anything! - to try and locate Zoda, but Clank has orders to keep a watch on him; he's not going anywhere. However, they finally receive a signal from the Reactor Might...it's located under Mute City? A scraggly, shambles of a man walks the streets of the city...It's Zoda. He remembers when he was the criminal kingpin of New York, warring against the police and Rick Wheeler in open warfare on the streets...and now look at him. Zoda can barely recognize himself. Is this how far he's fallen? He stands atop a set of stairs and announces himself, threatening to bring a reign of terror upon the city and seeking anyone will serve under him. The crowd snicker at him and two security guards quickly constrain him, whom he offers high ranking positions to. They throw him to the curb for talking nonsense. The Dragon Bird pulls up on the street, and Rick and Clank hop out to go looking for the Reactor Might. Zoda spies them, and hopes to accost them so they can prove his identity, but is beaten to the punch by a mob of adoring fans seeking Rick's autograph. Zoda joins the rush...but is knocked callously to the ground. Rick helps the old man to his feet, but is called away before he can stick around. Tears begin to well in Zoda's eyes. "Old man?" His longtime nemesis just brushing him off? It's too much for him to handle, and he stomps the ground and screams in rage. Clank suddenly receives the signal from the Reactor Might - though it's hard to miss. His computer fizzes and pops while all the lights in the vicinity shatter. A huge, imposing figure appears from nowhere, and the crowd flees at the sight of it... It's... Zoda...?! The Platoon arrive on the scene and Clank finally assesses what's happened - the Reactor Might is inside Zoda's body! He feels stronger than he ever has before, and it shows when the Platoon open fire upon him; every shot bounces off him harmlessly. It's Zoda's turn now - he summons the Death Anchor from a portal and boards it, it too becoming supercharged with the power of the Reactor Might, and he races off into the distance, crashing through cars like they weren't even there. Jody orders the Platoon to follow after, and Clank and Rick to get the heck out of dodge. Rick is eager to assist and strips off his arm cast, but Jack thumps him - he's only going to weigh them down, and putting his feud over the safety of innocent people isn't going to help! Jody changes her tune; chasing Zoda is obviously the highest priority Rick has in life, and he isn't going to change his mind anytime soon. He can come along; they'll know where he is, at least. Zoda continues his rampage, escalating from merely destroying cars to levelling entire buildings, leaving destruction in his wake. The Platoon aren't far behind...but they're in no position to stop them. EAD tries his hand at it, but he and Lucy are swept aside like flies. Jack tries clashing his machine against his, but the Death Anchor has too much power behind it, and he too is sent crashing into a building. Rick and Jody are the only ones standing; Jody hangs back to check up on everyone, but Rick forges on ahead, encountering Zoda at the Brooklyn Bridge. The villain tries to reason with him, saying the two are destined to be together - no one else has been through the experiences they have. Maybe they should be friends? Rick's not standing for it; when he awoke in the 23rd century, he thought of nothing but revenge against Zoda...but the new friendships and experiences he's had have helped him grow, to change him. Zoda is still the same reprehensible scum he's always been, and Rick will stop at nothing to defeat him! He aims his gun at him while the Galaxy Runner hovers overhead, its cannon locked and ready - you're under arrest! The Reactor Might inside Zoda begins to glow, and he and his Death Anchor fly through the air to the top of the Galaxy Runner. Tentacles grow from his body, stretching out and latching on to the spaceship, giving him control over it! The cannon narrowly misses hitting the bridge, merely splashing Rick...but if that thing targets the city...! He follows after the ship in the Dragon Bird, but has difficulty performing with his busted arm. Waves of energy emanate from the Reactor Might, flooding Rick's machine and causing the dashboard to glow...but nothing appears to happen. No matter, Rick has the strength to do what he wanted now - Boost Fire! The Spin Booster carries the Dragon Bird into the air and aboard the Galaxy Runner, nearly knocking Zoda off in the process. Rick and Zoda prepare to fight, the criminal opening with a blow that misses and strikes the ground, punching clean through the ship's hull. Rick hasn't the strength to match this guy! Zoda follows with left hooks and right hooks, Rick dodging each with ease, but his shoulder cramps when he tries to reach for his gun, scoring a mean punch right across the face. He tries again to grab his fallen gun, but Zoda plants his mighty boot atop of him while he aims the cannon towards the city. Rick struggles beneath his foot, and Zoda lifts him above his head and tosses him hard upon the ground. He struggles to his feet, a feat that impresses Zoda - he should put this skill and determination to use under his rule! Rick would have nothing of it - he fights for the safety of the city and his friends. His nemesis is insulted he would dare hold anything higher than their rivalry, and he begins choking the life out of him. Suddenly, the Reactor Might glows a sinister red and Zoda loses control of his muscles. Bulges begin swelling out of his body, his form growing grossly out of control...and in a swift expelling of energy, Zoda is reduced to a shrivelled husk again. He tries to struggle futilely away from Rick but a larger threat appears in the distance: a Dark Million battle station! Black Shadow laughs; Zoda was unable to contain the Reactor Might's power, but his experiment was otherwise a success. The Black Bull roars out into the sky, initating its Black Fire: a Spin Booster that tears across the top of the Galaxy Runner, splitting the tentacles and hurling Rick, Zoda and their ships into the air below. The Galaxy Runner is too slow to save them...only for a new ship to appear, the Falcon Flyer! Its tractor beam safely catches Rick and the Dragon Bird before they hit the water, and flies them to safety. The Black Bull continues spinning, slicing open a void in the sky...for Zoda to fall into. He curses Black Shadow's name as he vanishes into the darkness, the portal closing with him inside. The Black Bull returns to its battle station and departs without a trace. Returned safely to the ground, Rick recognizes the Black Fire as a technique similar to his Boost Fire. Captain Falcon tells him there's a reason for it; their three machines, the Dragon Bird, Blue Falcon and Black Bull are "brothers from another time." Rick wishes to know more, but the Falcon Flyer departs, leaving him with his questions unanswered. He ponders what this could mean for his Dragon Bird, but before he can dwell on it, the rest of the Platoon come running up to welcome him back. He smiles; these are the people whom he fights for. Beastman hunts a wolfman while Leon hides his beastly nature during a Mute City race
13 abr 2004An otherwise still night in Mute City is interrupted by a haunting call - the howl of the wolf. This catches the ear of a lone racer prowling the streets, and can't believe his ears. Talk of the sound is all over the Falcon House the next morning, and Rick, Bart and Clank are arguing over it being a prank or an ominous premonition. They're interrupted by Burt's new employee arriving for his shift: Leon. He's been working at the Falcon House for a week now, and everyone's got nothing but kind words for him, Lucy especially. Leon takes Lucy's cup, but accidentally drops it to the ground; the two pick up the pieces, Leon blushing as their hands touch. Rick teases Lucy back at Platoon HQ about Leon fancying her, but she refuses to believe it. They enter the command room to hear Jack having a row with someone, before stomping out in a huff; an unknown man is sitting in Lucy's seat! She politely asks him to clear off...only to have a whiplashed at her feet. The man laughs at them; he never knew the Galaxy Mobile Platoon were such scaredy cats, but before Rick can rough him up, Jody enters and introduces the man: this is Beastman, a beast tamer who'll be helping them track down members of Dark Million. The Platoon may be focused on Black Shadow, but Beastman is after the peons; beasts like Bio Rex join the criminal organization to escape his wrath. Jody partners Rick up with him, because nobody else wants to. Beastman is on the prowl in his Hyper Speeder, and is all too aware Rick is following after. He doesn't appreciate the assistance from small fries like him, and zooms off to explore the local club, before disappearing again. Jack catches up with Rick and apologizes for foisting the responsibility onto him; Beastman's one rough pup with a real attitude problem, and if Jack were in Rick's shoes, he'd ditch the assignment. Rick reports to Jody that he lost track of Beastman, and she does not approve - they're meant to be cooperating! John Tanaka takes the call and tries to shame him into the assignment; after all, if Beastman's such a hardass, he'll put the Galaxy Police to shame! EAD quickly leaves the room for fear of being paired up with him. Well, there's nothing Rick can do about it, he's got to follow this guy. It begins to rain and Lucy is stuck outside without a brolly, when Leon approaches and offers his. They make their way to the Falcon House with a bouquet of flowers Lucy bought to brighten the place up, and Leon reveals he's a part-time F-Zero pilot, and the two make plans to race together in the next Mute City race. Leon stops to ask Lucy something...but is too shy to let the words come out. The Dragon Bird pulls up so Rick can laugh at the two sharing an umbrella - Leon and Lucy sittin' in a tree...! He asks where Beastman is, but they know as little as he does. Rick drives on and the two enter the Falcon House, and Leon is asked to attend to a customer... Beastman! Leon freezes up before delivering his coffee and hopes to get away without remark. The hunter knows the kid isn't from around these parts, and asks where he came from. Burt and Lucy leap to his defense, but Beastman looks like he's about to say something awful about poor Leon...when Rick enters, saying he's got intel relating to Bio Rex. The two rush out, and Leon breathes a sigh of relief. The Big Fang and a trio of Dark Soldiers have just blown up a bank, but the Hyper Speeder and Dragon Bird aren't far behind. Bio Rex breaks into a sweat at the sight of Beastman, and commands the robots to hold him back. Beastman plays rough and slams them against the highway barriers, but Bio Rex manages to make his getaway using the warp gate. Rick blames Beastman for faffing about and letting them escape, but the hunter isn't too concerned; he'll catch them himself. While cleaning up the Falcon House, Leon falls into a daydream, thinking wistfully of him and Lucy spending time together. As night falls, the Hyper Speeder sits in an alley on a stakeout, when Rick delivers him some hot snacks. He urges Beastman to return to headquarters, there's clearly nothing to be found out here. Just then, the howl of the wolf is heard once more, and Beastman rushes to the top of the nearest building...where a wolfman is waiting for him! The hunter makes the first strike, firing a few rounds from his pistol, but the wolf backflips between them with ease, landing on the roof's edge. He cracks his whip, but the wolf jumps out of the way and down into the city below. Rick catches up to Beastman and demands to know what happened; what had the wolf done to merit attack, or to flee? Beastman changes the subject and explains his family was slaughtered by a wild beast when he was young; he believed their kind to be extinct, but the hairs left by this wolf prove otherwise. They survived, and have had offspring. Believing the people of Mute City to be under threat, he'll stop at nothing to slay this creature! As Rick returns to his vehicle, he hears a noise from the alleyway... It's Leon! Shaken, the boy hesitantly explains...he was that beast. The two head to the park while he goes into further detail: his ancestors may have been monsters, but as the generations went on, they became more and more peaceful, until he might as well be domesticated. He isn't 100% beast, but the sight of the full moon triggers something within him, a beast that cannot be tamed. To avoid Beastman and to help people in need across the galaxy, he became a wandering racer...and Mute City is no longer a safe haven for him. He's prepared to leave, but Rick calls him out - is he going to leave Lucy without a goodbye? Is he going to drop out of the race? Leon is torn, but no matter what, he wishes to keep his inner beast a secret from her. Meanwhile, Bio Rex is just about ready to flee from Dark Million, when Miss Killer bumps into him on the way out. He falls to his knees and begs her for help - Beastman is after him! That awful hunter has worked for Black Shadow since before he was born, but Miss Killer asks him, who is worse? If he flees, Black Shadow will grant him a fate worse than death like what happened to Zoda. She suggests the two of them attack Beastman at the upcoming race; Bio Rex is overjoyed at her support, though she appears to have ulterior motives. The Mute City race is about to begin, with the participants performing a practice lap before the real deal. Leon is taking part, and he and Lucy are glad to be spending time together again...though Beastman is also in the race, and he's got his eye on them. The race is underway, and the Big Fang is far out in front, but the Hyper Speeder is firmly on his backside. Just when it seems like Miss Killer is lending a hand, she boosts ahead, leaving Bio Rex to fend for himself - this is her race to win! Jack makes small talk with Rick, remarking that Leon looks pretty happy despite not putting up much of a race. Rick explains it may be his last time together with Lucy, but Jody quickly reminds him he should be keeping an eye on Beastman. He boosts up to the leading pack, while Lucy and Leon hang back, enjoying themselves. Everyone else has boosted, so they figure they might as well keep up. Lucy boosts ahead, but as Leon grips the lever he nearly gives in to his inner beast, boosting ahead for the sake of winning. He restrains himself; his goal is to stay by Lucy's side. The Hyper Speeder drifts along Bio Rex's side, Beastman preparing to boost and ram him into the wall...only for Lucy to come out of her boost between them, giving Bio Rex some breathing room. Spotting an opportunity, he rams the Elegance Liberty onto its roof, hoping to smack Beastman, but he dodges just in time. Leon can't believe his eyes, and the Platoon are just as shocked; Rick leaves the race up to Jack while he and the others try to hoist Lucy's machine right-side up again. Try as they might, the pit crew can't lift it, and Leon can only watch helplessly; he could lift it if he gave in to the beast, but that would mean... It's for Lucy's sake, and he can't let her lie like this. He begins lifting the machine, transforming as he does so, and flips it upright with a mighty shove. Rick carries the unconscious Lucy out of her machine, while a familiar figure steps towards Leon. Beastman. Rick steps between him, telling him he should set his priorities straight; Leon may be a beast, but he's as human as either one of them. The two draw their pistols, sights locked on one another...until Beastman withdraws. He allows Leon to live but never wants to see him again, and he departs in the Hyper Speeder. After Lucy awakens, she visits the Falcon House and finds Leon has gone without a goodbye. Standing in the rain, she kicks herself for not recognizing the secrets he was hiding, when a figure appears holding an umbrella. It's Rick. 20 abr 2004Miss Killer enters the throne room of Black Shadow to find a surprise waiting for her: a human brain in a jar. Black Shadow requests she contact Dr. Stewart of the Galaxy Mobile Platoon; he may be their enemy, but his advanced medical skills will be just what they need to make the brain functional again. Miss Killer receives strange visions, as if the brain were trying to communicate with her. A letter is sent to the Galaxy Police, requesting the doctor's assistance if he is to revive "Roy", and Jody, Tanaka and the chief discuss how to handle the matter: they clearly don't have a medic if they need to borrow theirs, but will they kidnap or kill Dr. Stewart? Roy was a valued member of the Galaxy Police, but they never learnt if he died or was merely missing in action; no matter what state he's in, they can't leave him in the hands of Dark Million. The three decide to keep the subject a secret until Jody talks with Stewart personally. "Everyone knows I can keep a secret!" Stewart and Clank are clacking away on their computers, the doctor restructing a DNA string while Clank is trying to research his father, but having little luck. Stewart knew him, and tells the boy he was a courageous and intelligent man who fought for justice to the bitter end. Jody summons the doctor away to tell him about the crisis personally...and he's made up his mind. He's going in. Jody is shocked, as are the rest of the Platoon; this is Dark Million he's talking about, it's risky! Jody demands to know how they all knew about this (though we all know the answer), but Stewart is in no mood to argue. As a doctor, it's his duty to help people, and Roy Hughes was a valued member, a friend to Jody's brother and father to Clank. Even if the chance of reviving him is minute, he can't ignore an opportunity like this. Jody reflects on the situation in the observation deck before Rick enters, telling them the meet-up is scheduled tomorrow. The doctor is preparing hard for the upcoming operation, but the two agree that he can't go on this mission alone... At the Falcon House, Lucy asks Clank if he remembers his father; of course he does, he always carries the photo pendant of him everywhere. He asks her what she knows about him, but she shuts her mouth; she can't let the kid know about Roy's condition...! It's the day of the arrangement, and Dr. Stewart drives his way to the meeting point, the Dragon Bird discretely following him from out of his line of sight. Stopping by a snow-capped mountain range, Stewart disembarks and awaits his transport. High above, the Galaxy Runner monitors the area from the sky. Rick hangs tight, but it doesn't look like anyone's coming...when suddenly, a massive shape bursts from beneath the snow...it's a Dark Million battle station! It docks on the edge of a cliff (about as well as a giant space-faring battle station can dock) and a passage opens, allowing Dr. Stewart to enter. Rick races to board as well...but the station has already taken off by the time he gets close. Cannons are cocked and fired towards the Dragon Bird, but that doesn't mean the Galaxy Runner can't give chase! However, Dark Million clearly knew what they were up to, and a huge wave of smaller battle stations float in, zapping their spaceship. Dr. Stewart is given a warm welcome aboard the battle station: first being kicked to the ground by two robots, then put under a sleeping spell by The Skull. During this time the battle station is flown to the very edge of the galaxy, and the doctor is awoken and escorted to Black Shadow's throne room. He demands to know why Black Shadow would have Roy's remains, but Miss Killer and The Skull sass-mouth him for daring to question their leader. Black Shadow dances around the issue, but does promise him this: if he successfully revives Roy, he will return the two of them to Earth, no strings attached. With a single gesture the throne room disappears, and Stewart finds himself in the battle station's operating room. The brain is presented to him, along with three medical aides, and they can finally prove to him this is Roy's brain. Hooking a communicator to it, they ask the brain what its body once looked like, and images of Roy and Clank flash into view. Back at Platoon HQ, the team are begging Clank to help them pinpoint the doctor's whereabouts, but he's having little luck. Stewart and his crew set to work on a new body for the brain, crafting a brand new mechanical hominid for it to control. The mind slowly awakens, and the doctor is with him in his first moments. He speaks to Roy, assuring him his child is in safe hands, but he has no choice but to erase his memory. From now on, Roy will become a cyborg; a human brain in a robot body. He enters four command keys to activate his body, naming them after his allies in the Galaxy Mobile Platoon, and the cyborg stands on his own two feet, now known as Mighty Gazelle. Gazelle and Stewart are brought before Black Shadow; the doctor explains why he gave him a new name, saying Roy is no longer alive and this body is not his own. He asks why he was given this task, though Black Shadow gives an overly flowery answer: "God created Adam and Eve from love. I believe in love too." All that's left is to return the two of them to Earth...if Black Shadow holds up his end of the bargain, that is. The Platoon have been anxiously awaiting the doctor's return, staying up all night and sleeping in their chairs, but the time has finally come: two ships are jetting towards the meeting point! A message from Miss Killer confirms they are returning the doctor and Gazelle unharmed; Dark Million aren't always such bad guys, she claims. Clank is curious to know who Gazelle could be, but the Platoon squirm around the answer before departing for the warp gate. Two F-Zero machines arrive at the warp gate, the Golden Fox carrying Dr. Stewart, and the Red Gazelle carrying the newcomer, Mighty Gazelle. Clank is excited at the sight of this sweet-lookin' cyborg, but everyone scampers to see why the doctor hasn't exited his machine... He shouts at them to stay back - their machines are lined with explosives, and he's been handcuffed to the steering wheel! A message from Miss Killer briefs them all on their predicament; Gazelle's body has also been lined with bombs, and along with the four keys Dr. Stewart inputted during his creation, Black Shadow made his own set as well. They have five minutes to decode the passwords before...kaboom! The Platoon are in no position to start guessing passwords, but Rick and Clank rush forward to give it a shot, despite the doctor's severe warnings. He's their friend, and they would never leave him behind! The group set apart removing the bombs from the machines while Clank tries to decode them, but there's so little time left - Stewart shouts at them to escape and save themselves. Clank's not having it, and asks for the passwords. The doctor tells him the ones he entered, but when it comes to Black Shadow's, everyone throws whatever names come to mind. The timer is almost at zero...but the bomb is deactivated just in time. The passwords worked! The group break into cheer...meanwhile, a cog silently activates inside of Mighty Gazelle. They all return to headquarters and Stewart is taken to the medical bay, satisfied with the hard work they made just for his safety. However, he doesn't want Clank to know of who Mighty Gazelle really is. Speaking of him, isn't it nifty to have a cyborg on the team? Tanaka rushes in to check on Stewart but is scared witless by the sight of Gazelle, who's merely inquisitive about his new environments. Miss Killer reports in to Black Shadow to tell him the Platoon cracked the codes he made...just as he had hoped. With step one out of the way, he has something big waiting in store for his enemies! 27 abr 2004In the dead of night, a storefront window shatters and a masked man scampers from the building, a briefcase of expensive jewelry in tow. He hops into his escape car and hit the gas...but moves all of nine inches before being stopped by a towering, powerful cyborg. Mighty Gazelle to the rescue! He tosses the car aside and admires his handiwork, while a component inside of him beeps ominously. Come morning, he hits the police station and dumps the crook in their hands, leaving them to do the paperwork. Clank has been keeping tabs on Gazelle's actions since he joined the Galaxy Police, and he can't help but admire the cyborg; he'd love to meet him sometime! He did save his life after all, it'd be cool if he remembered him. The others try to politely deter him, claiming Gazelle's got a busy schedule, but Clank isn't convinced - they want to hog the robot for themselves! When asked why they really don't want him to meet Gazelle, the Platoon find excuses to leave. Rick figures the kid will disobey them anyway, so he leads him to Stewart's lab where Gazelle is undergoing some routine maintenance. The doctor sings the officer's praises and Gazelle thanks the boy for saving his life before. They shake hands and decide to be friends, the two oblivious to their real relationship, before the cyborg returns to his duty. Rick reminds Clank that Gazelle is a busy officer and shouldn't be bothered; Clank just think he's jealous. On the Platoon's test track, Lucy and EAD are busy practicing their racing skills; they're keen to assist Gazelle in his first upcoming race, because he'll be kicked out if he fails. Suddenly, a new machine appears on the track - a Dark Million robot racer! Another one appears soon after, and the two begin shoving the Elegance Liberty and Great Star against the barriers, knocking them off of the track. They try to flee, but the robots are hot on their trail... Mighty Gazelle to the rescue! His racer zooms onto the scene, scattering the two robots and sending them crashing into the rocks. "Just doing my job," he remarks, and drives off just as suddenly as he appeared. Clank can't just keep his curiosity to himself, and is trawling the Galaxy Police's computer database to find info on Gazelle...but comes up with nothing. Rick reminds him even if he is a member of the Galaxy Mobile Platoon, he shouldn't be snooping without permission, and halts his search. Clank leaves in a huff. While preparing to take the Crazy Bear for a spin, Clash and Dr. Stewart find Clank asking them questions: if Gazelle is a cyborg, who is the human brain inside of him, and why is it kept such a secret? Dr. Stewart tells the boy he shouldn't be asking questions above his rank...before claiming he doesn't know the answer. Clash legs it to avoid being queried as well. The mechanic is out on scout duty, eyeing out the upcoming race's track layout from a faraway mountain...when a Death Soldier appears right in front of him! It tosses him to the ground so another can stomp his head in...but wouldn't you know, Mighty Gazelle is here just in the nick of time! He delivers sweet corkscrew kicks right to their faces, and Clash is safe once more. "Just doing my job!" the cyborg boasts, as he chases after the fleeing robots. At the Falcon House, Clank is regaled with talk of these rescues, and his respect for the cyborg is increased even further. Burt asks to know where they found such a capable officer, but Rick kicks Jack in the shin before he can answer. While Clank puzzles over this, Rick goes outside to take a call from Jody: some of their top-secret data has been stolen recently, and Mighty Gazelle is their number one suspect. Rick doesn't want to believe it, none of the doctor's tests have found anything suspicious in him... but why else would Black Shadow release him so easily? Rick agrees to keep a watch on him. The next day, Rick is using the computer to keep an eye on the cyborg, who's awaiting instructions in the police station. Reports come in of an emergency at Green Bridge, and Gazelle is the first one to rush out in response; Rick follows suit, but Jack stops Clank from tagging along. The boy demands to know why Rick is spying on one of their own, but Jack gives him another vague non-answer. Another Death Soldier is roughing up the park, ploughing through benches and otherwise giving people a bad time. Gazelle arrives and blocks the robot's path, exiting his vehicle to arrest it personally...giving it ample time to just drive around him and escape just before the police arrive. Rick witnessed the whole thing - why did he miss his opportunity? This is reported back to Platoon HQ, and it turns out it runs deeper than they thought - of all the emergencies Gazelle had responded to, the only criminals he let escape were ones who worked for Dark Million! Rick returns to the station to find Clank waiting for him. The boy urges him to stop following Gazelle - it's making the cyborg upset! Orders are orders he replies, but the boy storms out, frustrated. Gazelle meets up with Clank outside a burger joint and is told what's happening behind his back; they may believe he's a member of Dark Million, but Clank will always believe he's a good guy! Gazelle's component begins ticking again, and he decides to resolve this matter himself - he's going to Dark Million's headquarters! Rick pulls up just after he leaves and is told where he's going, but Clank is adamant the cyborg is a swell guy who'd mean no one no harm. Rick catches up and stops Gazelle on the highway, and asks him about his objective; does he even know where Dark Million is located? The cyborg answers: yes. Rick continues to grill him on his real intentions, but the component inside Gazelle begins flashing red, and his speech degenerates into random keywords before he finally admits it: he was ordered to steal data from them, for the glory of Black Shadow! The cyborg takes a swipe at him before driving back to the police station, Rick in hot pursuit with backup on the way. A shootout takes place on the stairs leading to the station as Gazelle opens fire on them, blowing up two police cars. A voice comes crying out his name... It's Clank! The cyborg does not recognize him, but instead picks him up and uses him as a hostage, dropping and crushing his photo pendant as he charges into the station lobby. An entire wave of armed officers surround the cyborg, but a quick spray of laser fire sends them scattering...giving Clank time to free himself and dive into the elevator. Just before it stops at the Galaxy Mobile Platoon's floor, Gazelle bursts through the elevator floor! Clank stumbles out before the cyborg can get through, and the doors shut behind him. Not for long, however - Gazelle blasts his way into the command room, opening fire anywhere he can while the Platoon members hide out of sight. Stewart and John Tanaka enter, oblivious to the commotion, but dive out of the way when the cyborg opens fire on them. The Platoon are awaiting Rick's return before they can make their move, but Clank appears before Gazelle to try to reach out to him; he's not a bad guy, surely! The cyborg takes aim and fire, but Rick dives and grabs the boy out of the way in the nick of time, informing him this isn't the Gazelle he knows and loves anymore. Not even the alleged might of EAD can stop the cyborg, earning a mean right hook for his troubles. As he takes aim on the fallen robot, Jody blasts him, giving Rick, Jack and EAD a chance to restrain him. Dr. Stewart appears, telling Gazelle he'll give him another examination to see if any malicious programming has been placed inside him... The cyborg's having none of that. He shakes his attackers loose, lifts a heavy cubicle wall and hurls it at them, trapping them long enough for him to make his escape. Rick and Jack give chase, but the damage has been done. Their command center is in ruins, and what they believed to be a trusted friend is now their enemy. The Dragon Bird and Astro Robin pursue the Red Gazelle across the highway, but the cyborg's computer-assisted powers are too high-tech for them. He brakes suddenly to get behind them, then rams Jack's machine with precision accuracy to disable it...this is Rick's fight now! Unfortunately, the Red Gazelle rams the Dragon Bird into the barrier before boosting away, giving him no chance to catch up. Clank gives him an earful about this when he returns, upset about the robot's disappearance, but Rick assures him the two will meet again, hopefully on more pleasant terms. In the meantime, he's repaired the boy's photo pendant, something which cheers him up. Mighty Gazelle is back in the hands of Dark Million, undergoing repairs, but Black Shadow has accomplished all that he needed. Reviving Roy's brain was a gambit to get his paws on Dr. Stewart's medical technology, to create an organism of his own to fight against Captain Falcon. The two initiate their Boost Fire, spinning their way to the finish line...when an unexpected explosion rocks the stadium. The two racers slow to a halt before a plume of smoke, and out of it steps Blood Falcon, demanding a race with Captain Falcon. Just as suddenly as he appeared, he vanishes in another explosion. The Galaxy Mobile Platoon are quick to investigate this, and witness a Dark Million battle station departing from the scene. Despite having attacked the stadium, the F-Zero Committee have Blood Falcon booked for the next race, and Tanaka orders the Platoon to prevent his victory. Talk of the Falcon duel is all over the Falcon House, and Jack's hopes of defeating the two of them are shattered by Clank, who reads him his embarrassing win-loss ratio to Captain Falcon. The team are called away for practice, and Rick is especially upset by Blood Falcon's request - that punk totally ignored him! Jody visits the Cyborg Graduate School to check on Dr. Stewart and grill him about Blood Falcon - just who is he, what does he want, and why does he look exactly like Captain Falcon? The doctor doesn't appear interested, saying they're bound to find out sooner or later, and he returns to his top secret project. The Platoon arrive early at the upcoming track, Lightning, and express fear over the fact it's situated in the middle of a lightning storm. Not to worry, there are lightning rods to direct the storms away from the track itself. Jody enters, demanding to know where Dr. Stewart is. Clash answers he's off eyeing up the competition...but there's only one other racer at the stadium, and that's...Blood Falcon! While a group of Death Soldiers tend to his Blood Hawk, Dr. Stewart hides in the shadows, loading a pistol with a chemical he had produced in his lab. Mustering up his courage, he leaps out with his gun raised...but his target isn't there! The clone appears behind him and knocks his gun to the floor, the Death Soldiers cornering him on all sides. Blood Falcon cackles before speaking to him: "It's thanks to you that I was born." Shocked, the doctor makes a dive for his pistol, but is stomped to the ground and has a weapon pressed to his face. A shot fires out, disabling the robots and distracting Blood Falcon - it's Jody and Rick! While the captain attends to the doctor, Rick confronts the attacker and sheathes his weapon as the two ready themselves for fisticuffs. Rick opens with a punch, missing twice before they begin grappling...but Blood Falcon is the stronger of the two, kneeing Rick in the gut before punching and upper cutting him against the wall. Before he can even get his breath back, the clone lifts him by the throat and begins choking the life out of him. Jody tries thumping him in the back to no avail, and has Rick thrown on top of her. They urge Dr. Stewart to run to safety, but Blood Falcon advances upon them, more than willing to kill them where they stand. Suddenly, a pin strikes the ground by Blood Falcon's feet... It's Captain Falcon! His arrival is what the clone was really waiting for, and the Captain agrees to his challenge; whoever wins the race is the better man. The Lightning race begins and Captain Falcon is the first one out of the starting grid, leading the race with the Great Star, Astro Robin and Dragon Bird not far behind. In the stadium, Lucy and Jody are grilling the doctor on the gun he was wielding, but Clash tells them to lay off until the race is over; this is an exciting match! Hairpin corners are no match for the leading racers, though they give just enough distance between them for Rick Wheeler and Captain Falcon to take the lead, dueling for first. This is exactly the one-on-one race Rick was hoping for - just a test of skill between him and the Captain with no interference. Unfortunately for them, their rivals are closing in fast - Blood Falcon and Miss Killer! She issues orders to her comrade to eliminate their enemies, but the clone instead pulls a u-turn and drives in the opposite direction! The madman racer comes pounding down on the incoming racers, knocking each and every one of them aside like they weren't even there...and without a single scratch to show for it! The smoking pile of downed machines leaves only the Blood Hawk, Blue Falcon, Moon Shadow and Dragon Bird in the race. The Blood Hawk miraculously catches up to the leading racers from behind, knocking Rick and Miss Killer aside so he can race with Captain Falcon man to man. The two boost ahead, leaving the Dragon Bird and Moon Shadow in the dust - he tries to catch up, but Miss Killer won't let him, ramming him furiously. The two Falcons continue to boost without end, fighting for dominance. They run the loop, race through the tunnel and over the bumps, but there's no telling who's going to take the lead. Blood Falcon is assured of his victory...but Rick calls him out - he's not allowed to beat Captain Falcon! That's his rival! He gives the signal to the Captain, and the two initiate their Spin Booster, giving them a serious burst of speed as they clash passed their rivals. Rick and Falcon take the lead...but the Blood Hawk catches up using its very own Spin Booster - Blood Fire! His machine gets between theirs as the three clash it out, fighting for first as they draw nearer and nearer to the finish line... Suddenly, the Blood Hawk stops spinning and slows down, fumes spilling from its rear. This mechanical failure gives Captain Falcon the gap he needs to make first, Rick taking second and even Miss Killer hitting third before the clone can even sputter passed the finish line. Rick and Captain Falcon rush out of their machines to the Blood Hawk, demanding to challenge the pilot in person. Blood Falcon isn't moving...until he gives a sinister smile. Without warning, a burst of lightning strikes the machine, exploding it in a massive, fiery wreck. Rick is knocked off his feet...and as the rain falls, there is nothing to be found of Blood Falcon amidst the wreckage. Watching this from the stadium, Dr. Stewart finally confesses: Blood Falcon is a clone of Captain Falcon, and the result of Black Shadow stealing his medical data. The serum he had planned to fire at the clone was to degenerate its cells, to make up for his mistake. Being a clone, it's clear Black Shadow has access to a Bio-Study, but the question remains...how did he get Captain Falcon's DNA? As the pit crew clean up on the track, Rick looks to Falcon for guidance. He gives him some ominous words: "Only the one who surpasses Falcon can become Falcon." The Captain leaves without another word, departing silently. Miss Killer returns to Black Shadow's throne room to find it empty, but her master's voice still beckons to her. A hidden elevator carries her to a secret chamber, where he shows her a hallway filled to the brim with containment pods...and inside each and every one of them is a copy of Blood Falcon! She spots a man in the crowd that's the spitting image of her brother, but he vanishes before she can track him down. She visits the police morgue, just to confirm what she saw...and it turns out she may be right - Andy's body is nowhere to be found! Even all data about him has vanished from the databases. She passes this info on to Dr. Stewart before beginning her own investigation. Rick enters just as she leaves, and the doctor has a favor he wants him to run... Jody visits the lakeside park to speak to a man who claims to have been a guide at Memory Park when her brother's body was brought in. However, it's too long ago for him to recall. She and Rick take their questions across the city, but have nothing to show for it. News of this reaches Dark Million thanks to Baba, their undercover spy, and Miss Killer tries to think of a way she can work this into an evil scheme. The old man at the park is visited by Rick, asking the same questions, but he reveals something new this time: all the workers at Memory Park were laid off just before the incident...by Jody's command, apparently! He walks off, leaving Rick to stew on that factoid. Driving back to HQ, he remarks to Jody that the affair surrounding her brother is most suspicious, but she demands to know how he came to know about it. She tells him to drop the issue - they have a race at Red Canyon to prepare for, after all! Adjusting her machine before the race, Jody is approached by a shifty-looking ape-man asking for her help. He says he's a subordinate of Miss Killer, assigned to eliminate her competition, but he'll face punishment if she loses. The racers are lining up on the starting grid so there's no time to chat, but the stranger tells her something before he goes: he knows a thing or two about the death of her brother. As the starting grid is filled, Mr. Zero introduces a newcomer to the F-Zero races; the Mad Wolf, piloted by the ape-man, Billy! The lights turn green and Jody's White Cat takes the lead in an instant. Jack and Rick compliment her on the lead, commenting she appears to be giving this race her all, but she claims it's business as usual. The Mad Wolf quickly approaches her machine and begins ramming her, though she's reluctant to react, unsure if there's a hidden ploy behind Billy's actions. Rick and Jack boost in and ram him off the course, eager to save their boss...but off the track, Billy is pursued by a trio of Dark Million drones! They box him in and begin ramming his machine maliciously, prompting Jody to summon Rick as the two go off-course and follow after. Miss Killer smiles; this race just got a lot easier. The two of them catch up and take care of the Death Soldiers, driving them off of cliffs and crashing them into walls to save poor Billy. Jack, meanwhile, has the privilege of fighting Miss Killer for first place, fighting her machine in an attempt to wear it down. While he distracts her, Dr. Stewart boosts passed with ease in his Golden Fox, looking like he's got this victory in the bag...only for the Blue Falcon to overtake at the last second, snatching victory from beneath him! After the race, Billy joins the Platoon in the stadium garage and explains himself: he used to work for Dark Million and was one of many trainees at their pilot training base, where they were put through cruel and difficult exercises. Many trainees died there, including some of Billy's friends. One of his pals is still being held there and was once a guard at Memory Park, so it's possible he may have known Andy Summer. He requests the Platoon to rescue him before he too is killed, but Jody refuses. The Platoon will offer him protection, but she doesn't believe his story. Just out of sight lies the Blue Falcon, and Captain Falcon has been listening to every word... Back at HQ, Jody is about to bring the issue to Tanaka when Rick catches her in the hallway and asks why she's dismissing the possibility Billy's pal really knows something. Telling him their own database states Andy is dead, Rick tells her, "he's not dead so long as he's in your heart." She tells him to bog off. He tries to cool down at the Falcon House, but the issue still hounds him; if her brother meant so much to her, why is Jody so reluctant to share this problem with others? Burt suggests he not get involved with her burden; "maybe destiny has something in store." In a surprise move, Rick quits the Galaxy Mobile Platoon and sets out on his own investigation - his first stop, the Dark Million training grounds! Jody catches wind of this and knows Billy is to blame, having told them where they were located but refusing to come along. The Platoon rush out to find Rick, but scold Billy for lying to them. The poor lug cries in a corner as they leave. The warp gate leads Rick to a cold, inhospitable planet. A race track surrounds a training facility, where broken F-Zero machines lie in wreck and ruin. The place appears abandoned, but inside the building is a prison cell containing a huddled figure covered in rags... As Rick approaches it, a computer screen boots up and Miss Killer mocks him for being such a dope; she'd hoped the whole Platoon could've been here, but beggars can't be choosers. The figure in the cell rises and grips the bars, tearing the entire door off with ease - it's Blood Falcon! Miss Killer wishes him luck, but the clone smashes the screen, proclaiming he does what he wants, and what he wants isn't very nice. Rick tries to attack him, but Blood Falcon is too strong to even react to his blows, and knocks him on his back by smacking him with the door. He prepares to impale him on the bars, only for an F-Zero machine to crash straight through the facility walls: it's Captain Falcon! The very sight of him sends Blood Falcon into a sputtering rage, and he lunges at the Captain with punches and swipes, but he manages to evade most of the attacks. Rick stands up to assist, but finds himself being pulled down by Death Soldiers bursting from beneath the ground! The battle of the Falcons appears equally matched, the two exchanging blows at an equal pace, until the robots grab Captain Falcon as well! Blood Falcon uses this chance to wail into him, punching and crunching against the Captain's torso... Suddenly, explosions ring out across the training grounds. The Galaxy Runner has arrived, Jody, Jack and Dr. Stewart zooming towards the base as their ship opens fire on the facility. Rick frees himself just in time to see all his allies approaching for a full-on assault. The two Falcons depart the exploding facility in their machines, and the Blood Hawk knocks the entire Platoon on their arses; they're no match for him! The Dragon Bird catches him by surprise, catching Blood Falcon's machine on his hood and scraping him across the ground before he wriggles free. The clone performs a U-turn and takes another shot at Rick and Jody, racing towards the two in a dangerous game of chicken. His confidence is shattered when the Blue Falcon enters his path, but he can't turn in time - Captain Falcon's machine smacks him across the side, barely damaging but definitely angering him. Enraged, Blood Falcon catches up to him and tries to crush him against the mountain wall, but even Captain Falcon's too good for that - he drives up the wall, dismounts and slides across the Blood Hawk's roof. The two stop and face each other, before the clone comes barrelling towards him! The Blue Falcon kicks into reverse, keeping ahead of his enemy but only by a fraction - the Blood Hawk is gaining closer and closer. Just when it looks like he's nowhere left to run, the Captain swerves to the side and watches Blood Falcon keep driving - right off the side of a cliff! Watching the clone and his machine explode at the bottom, Captain Falcon makes his exit as Jody watches, pondering how he knew they were here. The Platoon catch up to Rick and simultaneously praise and scold him - they can't tell if it was brave or stupid of him to come here, knowing fully well that it would be a trap. Jody, however, thanks Rick for his hard work. He's helped clear the doubts she held, and the words he told her earlier have helped her come to terms with her brother's death; so long as she remembers him, he will never be gone. She also relays a message from Tanaka onto him: about his resignation...is he still going ahead with that? The rest of the Platoon answers for him: no way! At Platoon headquarters, Billy receives more harsh words from Jack and Rick, eager to know if anything he said was true. He did receive training on those grounds, but he simply wanted as much distance between him and Dark Million as possible. Despite the trouble he's caused them, Jack claims Billy's got the potential to be an excellent pilot someday, which cheers him up tremendously. Enjoying a coffee in the city, Jody listens in to a brother and sister reuniting, a little wistful to the relationship she lost. Come the next F-Zero race he's in fine fettle, duking it out with Jack Levin for first place. They may be comrades, but that doesn't mean they'll take it easy on each other! The Dragon Bird pushes the Astro Robin aside as Rick prepares to activate his booster, but his dashboard glows as an image flashes into his head - Zoda's Reactor Might. His machine begins to wobble and weave, giving Jack the chance to snatch first place. Fearing his machine encountered a technical fault, Lucy and Clash took a gander at the Dragon Bird's internals, but there's only so much they can do - after all, its engine came from an unknown source, and it may hold secrets the mechanics don't know. Fearing Rick's uptight about something, Jack offers him the best treatment he can prescribe - partying! Lucy threatens to squeal to the boss if they're late for tomorrow's race. In a void of infinite blackness, the Death Anchor drives aimlessly, boosting through the air and other aerodynamic feats...but no matter what he tries, Zoda remains trapped. He screams into the darkness demanding to be released, but no one hears him. The Reactor Might trembles...and Black Shadow, in his headquarters far in the depths of space, appears to acknowledge it. He finds Miss Killer and informs her she has no need to attend the upcoming race - he has an entire fleet of Blood Falcons to fill in for her! Rick stumbles into the stadium the next day, groggy from a full night of breaking loose. Lucy is quick to scold him for his tardiness - even Jack got here earlier than him, but only because the scamp slept in the Astro Robin overnight. Jack laughs at him for actually going home to sleep - that's total scrub-tier sleeping technique - but Rick is actually feeling refreshed, so the party clearly did him some good! The racers line up on the starting grid, Captain Falcon among them, and he has a bad feeling about this; the grid is unusually packed today. Rick notices the Wonder Wasp among the lineup, commenting that Tanaka never even told them he'd be taking part, but it's Jody's observation that really clinches it: the entire Platoon's machines are on the circuit, but Stewart, EAD and Clash are still back at the stadium! The lights turn green and every machine bursts onto the track, though Jack, Jody and Rick are quickly approached from behind by the imposter Platoon ships. Captain Falcon assesses the racers' movements, and notices they're all working in a perfect grid...suddenly, the machines shimmer and reveal their true selves: all these imposter machines are actually Blood Hawks, and inside each and every one of them is a duplicate Blood Falcon! Mr. Zero goes ballistic at the sight of this - what an exciting twist! Miss Killer, watching this from Dark Million's space station, has a different opinion - did Black Shadow do this because of her failure to defeat Rick and Captain Falcon? Her boss denied the claim, answering the Reactor Might had the power to clone Blood Falcon, and he has his own reasons for entering them in the race...but that doesn't mean he's going to tell her. The five real racers find themselves at the front of an incoming pack of Blood Hawks, each and every one of them waiting as if to pounce. Just as Jody warns the Platoon to stay calm, she, Lucy and Jack are rammed from behind, putting their machines out of commission, leaving only Rick and Captain Falcon ahead of the Hawks... As if things weren't bad enough, the monstrous Black Bull appears on the track ahead, bearing down on them at tremendous speeds! Black Shadow sets his machine to boost, clipping the barrier to send his machine spiralling through the air, creating a portal with his vapor trails! There's no time to react for anyone to react...and Rick, Captain Falcon and the legion of Blood Hawks find themselves sucked inside, spiralling deep into the void before it seals. The Black Bull mounts the track again and makes its exit unseen, leaving the audience and the Platoon to wonder whatever could have happened. Finding himself in a well of infinite blackness, Rick tries to call Jody for support, but his communicator has no signal. Spotting a flaming wreck in the distance, he zooms over to it, finding a burning Blood Hawk slowly disappearing into the inky waters beneath them. All the time, he has the feeling someone, or something, is watching him... He spots Captain Falcon getting harassed by two more Blood Hawks, and he quickly intervenes, allowing the two to defeat them with ease. The Captain explains where they are: this is Dark Space, a well of pure evil that enhances the powers of dark-hearted individuals. Rick is keen to find his way out of here - everyone's gonna worry about him! - when he hears a familiar voice calling him from afar... It's Jack! Relieved that Rick is okay, he prepares to lead him back to the rest of the Platoon until Captain Falcon cries out to him - Jack has a gun trained on him! Rick dodges just in time, but the sight of his friend out for his blood is plenty shocking. The Captain tries to get involved, but finds a hand tugging him from beneath the waters...Zoda! He urges him not to get involved, he wants to see how this plays out. Rick kicks the gun from Jack's hand, but is shoved to the ground as Levin's hands wrap around his neck. Falcon warns him this isn't his real friend, it's an illusion - shoot him already! Rick raises his gun, but can't find it in him to shoot his best friend. Disappointed, Zoda releases the Captain and Jack's apparition fizzles out of existence. The Death Anchor rises from the depths and Zoda comes to greet his two visitors - have they come all this way to defeat him personally? He mocks Rick for being so sentimental over even a murderous clone of his friend, but his spiel is interrupted by an incoming fleet of Blood Hawks. Rick and Falcon run to their vehicles, but sensing energy from his Reactor Might, Zoda faces them head-on. As he stands before them, a vortex generates from his abdomen, sweeping the Blood Hawks off the ground and sucking them into his Reactor Might, obliterating every last one of the Blood Falcons. The Reactor Might begins to glow...and Zoda finds his body growing bigger and stronger than before. Merely boarding his Death Anchor gives it the same treatment, turning it into a far more threatening vessel than it once was. It is no longer the Death Anchor...it is the Hyper Death Anchor, and he shall now be called Hyper Zoda! His machine now boosts like a force to be reckoned with...but it still is not up to his demands. He stops by the two and asks for their help - Black Shadow may have trapped them in Dark Space, but the combined might of their Boost Fires may be just what it takes to get them out of here! Rick refuses to assist his hated enemy, but the way Captain Falcon sees it, there's no other choice. The three machines line up and boost simultaneously...but it's no good. Zoda tells Rick to pick up the slack; there's no way this is the best his machine can offer! He radiates energy from his Reactor Might to lend him some added punch, and the Dragon Bird's cockpit glows a radiant golden - its engine contains a Reactor Might, just like the Blue Falcon and Black Bull! Rick is shocked by the revelation, but Zoda doesn't care to explain - now that its true potential has been activated, their combined Boost Fire now boasts inconceivable power - enough to tear a hole in Dark Space and return them to the real world! Jack, Jody and Lucy are still trawling the race track, eager to find any sign of their missing comrade, when a glowing portal opens from behind the Astro Robin...and out of it flies the Dragon Bird! Jack approaches and wakes up the unconscious Rick, who almost believes another apparition is attacking him again. He's relieved to find his friend safe and sound and is eager to hear of where he went, but before Rick can answer, the crowd breaks into raucous applause... Zoda is welcomed back with cheers and open arms from the audience, and he can't get enough of having fans again. "You can't keep me down!" Captain Falcon explains to Jack that he and Rick were mere pawns in a scheme to free that villain from his cosmic prison; even Miss Killer can't believe his return, but Black Shadow responds to the news with an evil cackle. 25 may 2004The Galaxy Mobile Platoon are on the run from a mounted gun turret as part of their latest training exercise - a strict regime devised by James McCloud to make them think fast, react faster, and treat their opponents ruthlessly. Rick demonstrates by ramming the Astro Robin from behind, unseen amidst the rain of gunfire. James's technique is derived from fighter plane combat, where cunning and reflexes are all you have to top your enemies. The group aren't at all happy with this - F-Zero shouldn't be treated like warfare! - but they only get threatened with the gun again for speaking up. Rick, however, deduces their trainer has a military background, and is impressed with his technique. The next day, Jody and Stewart approach Tanaka with the intention of complaining about the drill sergeant he hired, but the director gushes over him too much for them to speak up. He spent a lot of dough to get this guy and James came recommended from a reliable source, so he's keen to see some results! John talks away in high spirits, but Jody and the doctor instead ponder who could ever have recommended McCloud. Jack and the crew share their discontent about James in the command room. Not only is his militaristic regime unfitting to the Platoon, but it causes untold amounts of damage to their machines as well; Clash has gotta fix those things, y'know! Jack has his own complaints and proceeds to make a really dreadful impersonation of McCloud...failing to notice he's standing right behind him. He beckons the crew out for more training, but Rick's the only one willing to take him up on the offer. The Dragon Bird and the Little Wyvern undergo more training, James refusing to give Rick any slack...but he's not willing to give up and wants to have another go, wishing to know his attack techniques. He needs to know how to fight Dark Million. James admires the man's gusto, and is reminded of an old comrade he once had. Rick wants to know more about his time in the military - how could the army have let go such a skilled pilot? - but McCloud refuses to answer, instead reminding Rick he's free to dropout if the going gets too tough for him. He doesn't plan on it - he's got faith in his skills. Rick invites his trainer to the Falcon House to sample their famous coffee - Burt and Clank tailor the making of each cup to each customer's specific taste, y'know! James and Rick get the same style of coffee, but while Rick takes it with milk, James takes it black (he's sweet enough, thanks). Clank tries to read into this with psychology, but Rick doesn't see what the big deal is. James has his fill and abruptly leaves, and even Clank can tell that guy's got a cold shoulder. In the Galaxy Mobile Platoon base, James is busy communicating on the computer when Jody enters, prompting him to shut it off. That was a private conversation, he proclaims, and skulks away. Once he's out of sight, Jody contacts Clank to look into who he was talking to, and a quick bit of hacking reveals it to be...Bio Rex?! Octoman and Bio Rex go over their battle strategy for the next race and gush about their contact - he really looks out for the little guy, doesn't he? - when Miss Killer appears, curious to know what they're talking about. They boast they'll defeat Rick Wheeler for sure this time, and she smirks at the thought of it. Come the next race, Rick and James are in the stadium about to get ready, only to find Jody waiting for them... She asks James if he'll be taking part; of course, he's a member of the Platoon now. She reveals she knows who he was contacting, and the recommendations Tanaka received about him were fabricated...so where do his ties lie with Dark Million? James fesses up - he's a mercenary, he'll train anyone who'll foot the bill, Dark Million included. But why? To be the champion, of course! While he sics the two factions against each other, he already knows what tactics to expect and can sail passed them to victory. Rick feels used by this revelation, but James declaring this race to be his final lesson and departs, reminding him betrayal is a mere fact of life. The Platoon stew over this in the starting grid, but at least with it out in the open they can focus on their main objective again. The racers start their engines, and once on the track Octoman and Bio Rex quickly find targets to test their newfound skills upon. Lucy comes under attack, but she and Jack fight back using the same manuevers, surprising their opponents. While they're feuding the Little Wyvern breezes passed them, and Miss Killer spills the beans to her lackeys; this is exactly what their trainer wants them to do. This infuriates them but only makes their resolve grow fiercer - they have to win this race for sure! While the Platoon and Dark Million are locked in bitter combat, Rick is stuck behind the warring crowd and James McCloud is far, far, far out in front. Acknowledging this, Jack and Lucy barge the Deep Claw and Big Fang out of the way, allowing Rick to slip passed the Moon Shadow and trigger his Spin Booster! The Dragon Bird and Little Wyvern are neck and neck, but ultimately, James McCloud takes first place. The Platoon are a bit salty about this, but in the end they prevented Dark Million from winning, and that's all that counts. Speaking of Dark Million...where's Miss Killer? The mercenary is cornered by her and a shower of Death Soldiers in the parking garage, eager to repay him for his trickery and lies with a few laser blasts to the cranium. James is thankful these bums are so predictable and blows up the robots with a grenade, making his getaway...failing to account for a second wave of them to pop out and corner him. Just when it looks like he's done for, the Dragon Bird appears and barges the drones aside, allowing James to board and make his getaway. Octoman tries to stop them but Rick shows him some violent driving, causing a pile up of Dark Million racers as they safely escape. A safe distance away, James wishes to ask why Rick risked his neck for him. "Because we drink the same kind of coffee." The mercenary reminds him he takes his black, so their tastes and ideals don't totally coincide...but he feels free to open up to his trainee. O'Donnell was the name of James' comrade, and the two of them joined the army together. On a search and rescue mission their transport was shot down over enemy terrain, O'Donnell carrying his friend to safety from the burning wreckage. They called for rescue, but as far as command were concerned, the battle was over; sending in another ship would break the treaty. Despite that, McCloud and O'Donnell were still under heavy enemy fire. To give his wounded buddy an opening to flee, O'Donnell charged towards the hail of gunfire, sacrificing himself to distract them from James' escape. Since that incident, he's refused to trust anyone. Rick calls him out on his BS - his squadron must've felt bad for having to abandon them, and it's not like he's above that; he abandoned the people he was meant to rescue. James tells him he could never understand his pain, but Rick shows off his skills in the Dragon Bird, owing a lot of it to his mentor's training. He commends James for his skill, despite being a bit of a dirtbag, and hopes he reunites with O'Donnell on the other side. McCloud walks into the sunset without thanking him. The Platoon unwind at the Falcon House, complaining that Tanaka's to blame for this whole incident, while Rick fears James will never return again; will he live the rest of his life a cold, distrustful individual? Burt tells him he popped over to the café earlier and tried a new style of coffee, so he may not know it, but he may on the road to change. Rick ponders if he's still drinking bitter coffee, wherever he is... 1 jun 2004Rick and Jack are battling for first place in their latest F-Zero race, when a mass of flames on the track catches their attention - and out of it zooms Mighty Gazelle! He rams aside every racer in its way, but it's them who he's really after! The Red Gazelle catches up and begins laying into them - they're already at their maximum speed so they haven't a chance of outrunning it. Just when it looks like they're snookered, the Blue Falcon makes a dramatic entrance using its Spin Booster... and rams the Red Gazelle onto its side. The Platoon rush to check on the cyborg, who stumbles out of the wreckage before collapsing, sparking and sizzling. Captain Falcon departs; his work here is done. This attack is monitored by the members of Dark Million, and Miss Killer is trying to work out who among them made the order for Gazelle to attack. Zoda owns up to it, claiming that hunk of junk needed to show its worth once in a while; Miss Killer scolds him for acting without their master's orders, but Black Shadow isn't fussed. Zoda may be acting of his own accord, but his true purpose will come in due time. In the space station's hangar, Bio Rex and Octoman are secretly discussing the power play going on with their superiors, believing Black Shadow now favors Zoda over Miss Killer. While discussing which of the two to root for, Miss Killer steps in and reminds the two of the consequences of betrayal. Gazelle is brought home for repairs while Clank gets uppity about the situation; he thinks the cyborg is a hazard and should be dismantled before he injures or betrays anyone again. The Platoon argue he was being controlled by Dark Million and such a thing will never happen again, but the boy leaves in a huff. The others enquire about Gazelle's repairs, and he's just about ready to be released. His internals have been given a clean sweep, purging any and all components Dark Million installed within him and erasing his memory, resetting him back to a child-like state. As such, someone needs to babysit him until he's more independent. Jack quickly opts out, but Jody already had someone in mind... Clank wants nothing to do with it, but, Rick, Lucy and Burt gently pressure him into taking the task. Dr. Stewart wouldn't have gone to such lengths to revive him if he hadn't been such a reliable officer, and Burt claims Captain Falcon would want the best for the cyborg. The kid accepts, and is brought back to HQ to be re-introduced to Mighty Gazelle. "I'm Gazelle. Pleased to meet you!" The boy is disappointed that he doesn't remember him, until he's told of the cyborg's memory erasure. Clank is tasked with bringing him up to speed, showing him right from wrong, and demonstrating how to behave like a proper police officer. Their first course of action: cleaning this room! Gazelle promptly picks up Jack and asks which trash recepticle he belongs in. At the Falcon House, Rick, Jack and Lucy fill in Burt on how everyone's favorite cyborg is getting on. He's very punctual and eager to help, if a little clueless at times - when asked to buff the machines, EAD got the treamtment as well, and a friendly offer to massage director Tanaka's shoulders nearly broke his neck. The director's giving him a wide berth, but aside from that, Clank and Gazelle make a good team! The two of them are even taking a test drive on the Platoon's private track, helping Gazelle get re-acquainted with his F-Zero machine. Even with his memory reset, the cyborg takes to it like a fish to water. Jody and Stewart only hope he'll be able to remember his true identity in future, though they don't want to rush it - Gazelle and Clank are both in a sensitive state at the moment. Rick and the gang return to find Clank having a row with Gazelle - that bucket of bolts threw his photo pendant in the trash! The kid takes it very personally, but as far as the cyborg is concerned, he was merely following orders. Jack and Lucy calm him down; the garbage won't be disposed of until later, they've got time to try and find it. Gazelle is quick to act on this, though Jack only gets involved when he discovers his little black book was among the items chucked out. Jack quickly reclaims his list of babes' phone numbers, but the others are not so lucky; Clank storms out and the others gradually leave, until Gazelle is the only one left looking. He eventually finds the pendant at long last, and is curious why it meant so much to the boy. He places it on his hand and opens the pendant, revealing a picture of the boy and his father...triggering indistinct memories in Gazelle's head. The rest of the gang are relaxing in the command room, wondering what the big lug could be up to. They complain to Jody about his little incident while cleaning up, upset about their possesions he threw out and wondering why he's such a klutz all of a sudden. She and Stewart ask they treat the cyborg with respect, as he still needs time to recover; Lucy says it'll only be a matter of time until Gazelle remembers he's Clank's father. "... is this true?" The Platoon react in shock to Clank's sudden eavesdropping, but don't even have time to backpedal - Clank is upset at their remarks and refuses to believe that cold, heartless machine could be his father. He runs out of the room, spewing hatred at Gazelle along the way...as the cyborg enters the room. He found the pendant! Rick is taken aback that he had been searching all this time for the boy's most treasured possession, but the cyborg turns and leaves after handing it to him. Gazelle visits the observation room, reminiscing on these strange new experiences. Dr. Stewart enters and tries to help explain things to him: he is Roy Hughes, and Clank is his son. It's a little too soon for him to fully process things, so the doctor leaves him to it. Rick and Burt finally track down Clank at the lakeside park, where he's been crying to himself. He's overjoyed to be reunited with his pendant, and is stirred to hear that Gazelle was responsible for finding it. The next F-Zero race is under way, and Octoman and Bio Rex are leading out of the starting line - they've lost Gazelle and Zoda isn't participating, so they deem it wise to root for Miss Killer's victory. Clank enters the stadium to ask why Gazelle isn't racing; Clash says it's too early for him to take part and is back at headquarters. He's been lonely without Clank's company. Miss Killer takes the lead with the Big Fang and Deep Claw guarding her rear, but that won't stop Rick barging through using his Boost Fire. Suddenly, the Red Gazelle appears up ahead, coming right his way! The Platoon are suitably surprised, and Clank fears the big dumb idiot has betrayed them again. The Dark Million posse cheer on Gazelle's return...only to be knocked right off the track by the rampaging robot. As Clank exits the stadium he finds Gazelle parking and exiting his vehicle, slowly approaching him. The boy cowers in fear, no idea what to expect from his one-time friend as Dr. Stewart readies his pistol...only to find himself held in the cyborg's warm embrace. Confused at first, Clank is instantly reminded of the affectionate hugs and cuddles he and his father shared when he was still alive...It's true. Gazelle is his father, and the cyborg couldn't be happier to be with him once more. The happy reunion is spoilt by the sound of evil cackling over a loudspeaker. Zoda has arrived in a Dark Million battle station with a little present to drop on them: a big stinkin' missile! The Platoon quickly run for cover, hiding inside a convenient bomb shelter...but the shutters close before Clank and Gazelle can get inside, and there's no time to open them - the bomb has dropped! The track and the stadium face utter devastation as Gazelle protects Clank with his body, shielding him from the tremendous blast. Once the dust settles, the shutter opens to reveal a cracked and battered Gazelle...and Clank, who is totally untouched. The cyborg slowly rises to his feet...but there is no power left within him, and he topples backwards to the ground. Clank rushes to his father's side, begging him to stay awake and apologizing for every bad thing he ever said about him, but Gazelle's consciousness slowly fades. 8 jun 2004Miss Killer brings an unpleasant observation to Black Shadow's attention - in the last twenty races, Dark Million minions have won a measly three races, and fourteen of those victories go to Rick Wheeler and Captain Falcon. Black Shadow reminds her she isn't just a mere pawn to win prize money, she's a trained assassin! Go out there and kill those guys, or something, I don't know! Isn't that what she's named for?! A feature reel of Captain Falcon's victories is playing on television, asking just who is this mysterious racer? Watching this in the Falcon House, Clank repeats the question to Burt but gets a nondescript answer; he doesn't know, and some folks just carry secrets, that's all. Rick and Lucy enter and order their usual, and Burt tells them the café will be shut tomorrow - he'll be out watching the upcoming F-Zero race! Clank realizes he's never attended an F-Zero race with Burt, though the café owner claims it's just a personal matter. That must mean Burt has a hot date! He's shocked at this answer, but Rick and Lucy quickly tell Clank not to interfere; this is a grown-up's only event. That night, Clank is sleeping soundly in his room, but what he doesn't know...is that Burt is nowhere to be found. At the stadium the next day, Clank is busy spying on the audience through his binoculars, eager to see what his boss is up to...and more importantly, what his girlfriend looks like! He spies Burt marching up the staircase - with an extra cup! - and sees him pass it on to a real babe. Pleased to see what he's up to, he resumes assisting Clash on repairs, missing Burt walking passed the woman and further up the stairs. The drink was merely a gift between total strangers. The Mute City Grand Prix is about to begin, and the Blue Falcon makes it to the starting grid just in time. Rick greets him with respect, and the two are the first out of the starting line, eager to challenge each other once more. Miss Killer isn't far behind, eager to please her doubting master, but the Dark Million grunts are tripping over themselves for a chance to tackle Rick and the Captain. Baba approaches Rick from the rear, but a quick strike from the Dragon Bird sends hurtling backwards, toppling over the Moon Shadow in the process. Her machine konked out, Miss Killer can only watch in anguish as the Dragon Bird and Blue Falcon initiate their Boost Fire, putting up a furious fight for first place. In the end Rick claims first place, and Clash and Clank couldn't be more chuffed. The two winners (and Super Arrow!) are heaped with praise on the winners' podium, and are presented with flowers from race queens. Rick is too caught up in the excitement to notice something peculiar with the race queen approaching him... She presses a button on her bouquet and a piercing laser shoots out from between the roses - Captain Falcon shoves her and Rick aside just in time, but takes a blast to his left shoulder. He slumps to the ground wounded, but Rick chases after the race queen first of all. That's no race queen - that's Miss Killer in a wig! The fellow Platoon members rush to Rick's aid, but she fends them off with throwing knives. When normal heroes fails, that is the moment for superheroes to intervene! Super Arrow prepares to make a dynamic launch...only for Miss Killer to step on his cape, sending him crashing to the ground. She makes her escape as the ambulance arrives, Jack giving chase, but amidst the chaos Rick turns to assess everything around him. Captain Falcon has vanished! Rick and Clank catch up to him in the stadium's parking lot, noticing his wound and demanding he go to a hospital, but the Captain zooms off without response. In an unknown location, the Blue Falcon emerges from a warp gate and its pilot stumbles out, disappearing up an ominous staircase... Clank returns to the Falcon House that evening and enquires about Burt's date. He instead remarks what a surprise turn-out the race had, only to Clank to comment on Captain Falcon's attack after the race - why would he be on Dark Million's hitlist? Burt suddenly drops and shatters a cup across the ground, but expresses discomfort in his left shoulder while collecting the pieces. He claims to have pulled a muscle, and chooses to close early. While researching Captain Falcon in his room, Clank hears strange noises from the hallway and nervously goes to investigate. He finds nothing, but reflects on what's seen and heard today - Captain Falcon hurt his shoulder at the race, and Burt's having trouble with his. He's watched races with Burt on television, but anytime he goes to the stadium he closes shop...and every match he watched with Burt, Captain Falcon did not attend! If that's the case, where does the Blue Falcon live? Clank decides to ask his boss directly, but finds the entire café is empty; Burt is nowhere to be found. Well, while he's down here, he might as well treat himself to some OJ... But as he pulls out a bottle, he finds it's no standard bottle of fruit juice, it's a canister easily six feet long! Puzzled, he puts it back where he found it...only to hear a mechanical clunk. The fridge seals itself shut and slides out of sight, revealing a secret doorway behind it! Clank peeks within, finding an ominous staircase leading downwards... A secret basement! More than a basement, this looks like a fortified hangar. The moment he steps through the door, the lights turn on and reveal a surprising sight: the Blue Falcon! Then that means his rescue by Captain Falcon and being taken in by Burt weren't just wild coincidences... A voice echoes from behind him: "I knew you'd figure it out." Captain Falcon appears before Clank, still clutching his wounded shoulder before raising his visor. There's no doubt about it, Burt Lemming is Captain Falcon! But if that's the case, then that means he knew Clank's father, Roy Hughes, right? Falcon apologizes for keeping up this lie; Roy was his best friend and the two of them were close comrades, though even he never knew his true identity for most of his life. He won't reveal all just this moment, but he tells the boy this: his father was a brave man who sacrificed his life in the pursuit of justice. He was a deep cover spy among Dark Million's ranks, but that fateful day Falcon attacked one of their transport ships, he never knew the boy's father was aboard. While Roy gave his life to protect him from Zoda's assault, he finally deduced who Captain Falcon really was... Andy Summer! The Captain clutches his shoulder and apologizes once more for his veil of secrecy, but Clank owes his newfound life to the man. He would have remained a criminal hacker had he remained on Forno, and although his father is a cyborg and still undergoing repairs, he would never have escaped Dark Million's control if Falcon had not interfered. He's pleased to have had such a positive impact on the boy's life, but asks Clank to keep this a secret. He, and only he, knows Captain Falcon's true identity. The next morning, Rick and Lucy visit the Falcon House to find Clank manning the counter, learning the ways of serving coffee. Rick, however, is reflecting on yesterday's events - Captain Falcon risked his life for him. Concerned about the mysterious man's wellbeing, Clank assures him Falcon has a special little someone looking after him, though Lucy interprets this as the man having a girlfriend. Miss Killer will, after she pushes Rick off the track and into a ditch. The announcer ponders what could have caused such a slip-up on his part, but Rick's mind is on other matters. Miss Killer looks just like his 21st century girlfriend, Haruka Misaki! Rick's dreams are still haunted by Zoda, the criminal he's been chasing since the year 2051...when will the hunt for justice ever end? Clank returns to the Falcon House with trinkets from his visit to Alias, a fellow boy F-Zero fan, and brought home some intriguing discoveries - a photo of Rick in his Formula One days, and what appears to be Haruka's diary. Curious why those were in Alias's house, Clank explains his place is full of weird crap, including a secret room. That still doesn't explain why his stuff is in their house; perhaps Alias's family are Haruka's descendants, though that seems unlikely. Rick takes the diary with him to check it himself, though Clank is disappointed he doesn't get to see what's inside. The first page of the diary mentions Haruka's friend Rose introducing her to Rick for the first time, and as far as he was concerned, it was destiny. That's a cute way of saying it; at that time Rick was a chump driver who rarely won races, though Haruka was always there to lift him up and raise his spirits. The two grew more intimate, and Rick had planned to surprise her with a proposal ring, though his fateful pursuit of Zoda obviously put a snag in that plan. Or more accurately, a car door right through his freakin' face. 150-year photo from Haruka's diary The diary explains what happens after his accident: Rose, a New York police officer, granted Haruka permission to see Rick, but it was too late, he was already being put into cold sleep...and that was the last time she ever saw him. While Rick was destined to reawake in a world unlike his own...Haruka was left to cope with her grief. The police were doing everything they could to bring Zoda to justice, but that wasn't enough for her; if they couldn't do it, she'd take care of it herself. Rose tried convincing her not to, but it was to no avail. Haruka may have been scared, but this was the only answer she knew of. Reading this, Rick returns to Platoon HQ to request everything they have on his girlfriend, though Jody and Stewart already researched her back before they revived him. They found nothing concrete on her, but they'd be willing to run another check, though the two are concerned about the truth...if Haruka really is revived and under Dark Million's command...! Rick takes what he's learnt to the Falcon House for everyone to muse upon. Well, it's pretty clear that Haruka never got revenge if Zoda's still alive and kicking 150 years later, though that doesn't mean no one came close. Back when Zoda was the tyrant of New York City, a fat cash reward was offered for his capture, and one of his minions snitched to the police: he would be attacking the East Bank. Rose and the cops had a trap prepared for him, though despite having this in the bag, they still found Haruka lurking around the precinct, eager for justice. The cops lay in wait, watching as Zoda crashed a lorry right through the front of the bank and began raising a ruckus--only to find the joint deserted! Potted plants and pillars removed their disguises to reveal police capture drones, firing lasers at the dissidents and filling the zone with freezing gas. Zoda was captured at last! Rose rushed to Haruka's apartment to spring the good news on her, but the race queen was nowhere to be found. Only a diary and a letter lay on her table, repeating her desire to take on Zoda herself. Rose penned the last entry in the diary, stating Zoda had been escorted to the freezing facility before she could reach the bank, and Haruka was nowhere to be found. She could only hope this diary would find its way into Rick's hands... The Platoon boo over the bummer ending. All those questions left unanswered! Did Haruka defeat Zoda? Where is she now? Rick reflects on his first encounter with Miss Killer, and how his proposal ring is what sent her running. No way, that can't mean...! Meanwhile, Zoda is having a right feast in Dark Million's space station, sending Bio Rex and Octoman running to supply him with more and more sugary treats. He never ate a bite when he was in Dark Space! Miss Killer peeks in from the hallway to taunt him on what a big fat gorge he is, before going on her merry way. Zoda fumes over the woman's persistent attitude towards him, and wonders why she enjoys insulting him so much. His Reactor Might opens, expelling energy and refreshing his memory, allowing him to remember when he was caught in the police's freezing trap...when Haruka Misaki appeared from the mist, pointing a gun at him! Although determined, she couldn't bring herself to fire before the two of them were engulfed in the mist and frozen. So that must mean he wasn't alone when he was put in cold sleep - she was along for the ride! Things have just gotten interesting... So what's up with cold sleep anyway? It's a system designed for convenient space travel but also to store its contents for long lengths of time; Rick, for instance, was put in cold sleep until medical science could tend his mortal injuries.
