Genshiken

A college freshman named Sasahara joins a student society to explore his interests in manga, anime, and gaming. His initial visit to Genshiken, a group focused on modern visual culture, challenges his self-image when he is outmaneuvered by a more experienced member. Despite this, he struggles to accept that he is an otaku. Through participation in events like dojin shop visits and anime festivals, and interactions with fellow members, including a dedicated but eccentric otaku, his girlfriend who is not an otaku, and a cosplayer, Sasahara gradually becomes more open to the otaku lifestyle. With their support, he begins to adapt to life within the society.
