In a distant future, humans reside underground in massive caves, unaware of the world above. In the village of Jiha, Simon, a quiet digger, unearths a mysterious glowing item. Kamina, a bold young man with sunglasses and a strong spirit, becomes Simon's friend and helps form the Gurren Brigade, a small group determined to escape and reach the surface. The village leader opposes their plan and disciplines them. When a catastrophe from above threatens the village, Simon, Kamina, Yoko, a girl with a large weapon, and the robot Lagann must save their home. Their journey leads them to the surface, a dangerous battlefield where they fight against the Beastmen to help humanity.
