The third season follows events during the Daihasei Festival, where Tokiwadai Middle School, an elite all-girls school, participates in the competition. Although Mikoto Misaka, known as the "Ace of Tokiwadai," is involved, other students also strive to win despite the challenge she presents. The festival brings Academy City open to outsiders, leading to increased interest from various groups seeking to infiltrate. Misaka becomes a target, and as the festival continues, hidden threats begin to surface. The series explores darker aspects of Academy City, including terrorism and secretive underground operations.
