A rookie sky pirate named Coud discovers an Edel Reid named Ren during a routine raid. Edel Reids are a species valued for enhancing their partners' combat abilities through Reacting. Coud learns that Ren is of particular importance when three agents from the Edel Reid Complete Protection Agency, Arc Aire, attempt to buy her. Refusing their offer leads to an unexpected attack on the ship, and Coud is then tasked by his captain with ensuring Ren's safety.
