Kono Sekai no (Sara ni Ikutsumono) Katasumi ni

A quiet and somewhat clumsy girl named Suzu grows up in the outskirts of Hiroshima during the mid-1930s. She enjoys drawing and is skilled at it. In 1943, at age 18, she is arranged to marry a young man in Kure, a city with a major naval base, where he works as a civilian secretary for the military tribunal. In her new home, Suzu faces unfamiliar people, a new family, and the difficulties of life worsening due to the Pacific War. Despite these hardships, she finds moments of happiness and peace. The film expands on Suzu’s story by including perspectives of others, adding new scenes from the manga. These include her meeting Rin in late 1944 and early 1945, and a segment focusing on the Makurazaki Typhoon in September 1945, during which Suzu worries about her younger sister, Sumi.
