In 2307 A.D., fossil fuels are gone, replaced by energy from three massive orbital elevators that supply power to only a few dominant nations and their allies. The Union, the Human Reform League, and the AEU each control one elevator and compete for influence and wealth. Amid ongoing global conflicts, a private military group emerges with the goal of ending war through force. This group, known as Celestial Being, uses advanced mobile suits called Gundams to intervene in wars around the world.
