Ash, his mother Delia, Mr. Mime, and Professor Oak travel to Vermilion City to attend the opening of Professor Cerise's new research lab. Professor Cerise wants new trainer Goh to choose his first Pokémon from among the Kanto starters, but he refuses because he wants to choose Mew instead.
