Kirito and his childhood friend Eugeo were raised in Rulid village, and they’ve been tasked with chopping down a colossal black tree called the Gigas Cedar. This is their Calling. Today, they’re at it again, swinging their axe, when their childhood friend Alice arrives with homemade pie for them. As they eat, the three friends decide to venture to the fabled cave in the End Mountains. Both Kirito and Alice alleviate Eugeo’s fear that they might be violating the Taboo Index, the laws of their world, and soon enough, it’s time for them to set off. (Source: Aniplex USA)
