Kirito and his childhood friend Eugeo live in Rulid village, where they are assigned the duty of felling the massive Gigas Cedar. While they work, Alice brings them homemade pie. During their meal, the trio discusses exploring a legendary cave located in the End Mountains. Eugeo worries that this journey might breach the Taboo Index, the strict laws governing their world. Kirito and Alice reassure him that their actions are permissible, easing his concerns. With his fears alleviated, Eugeo agrees to join them, and the three friends prepare to depart for their adventure.
