Against all the odds, Kaiji was able to survive, while also saving a man named Ishida, but is left with a new debt of ¥6,295,000 (around $61,400). In a 4-month time period, Kaiji is working in a convenience store still in debt and poverty. It all changes when Endou appears before him, yet again, offering Kaiji another chance to clear his debt.
