The next morning, Anne accepts the day but decides to not go outside because it will be her last time there. They travel to the house of Mrs. Spencer to return Anne, and she reluctantly talks about herself. That winter, Anne helps treat Diana's sister, Minnie May, who gets sick with croup, with ipecac, and Matthew gets a doctor from a nearby town. Matthew and Anne travel home.
