Magic Knight Rayearth

Three girls—Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu—are taken to a magical realm named Cephiro while visiting Tokyo Tower. There, they meet Master Mage Clef, who tells them they were called to become the Legendary Magic Knights to rescue Cephiro. The girls are reluctant and wish to return home. Clef informs them they must find the three Rune Gods to defeat the enemy. He gives each of them armor and magic abilities. They learn that High Priest Zagato has captured Princess Emeraude, the Pillar of Cephiro, whose prayers maintain the realm’s balance. Without her, Cephiro will collapse. The girls must battle Zagato’s forces and locate the Rune Gods to save the world and return home. As they struggle, they come to depend on their friendship and loyalty in the failing Cephiro.
