Haruyuki Arita, a bullied student at Umesato Junior High School, plays squash in the virtual world to cope with harassment from Araya’s gang. After rejecting Chiyuri Kurashima’s offer to report the abuse, he discovers his high score was beaten by Student Council Vice-President Kuroyukihime. She invites him to lunch and installs the Brain Burst program on his device. When Araya attacks Haruyuki, Kuroyukihime activates Brain Burst, accelerating their perception of time. She instructs Haruyuki to let Araya strike him, ensuring security cameras capture the assault and leading to Araya’s detention. Later, Haruyuki encounters childhood friend Takumu Mayuzumi but flees, fearing pity. That night, he suffers a nightmare about his tormentors before accidentally connecting to the globalnet, transporting his avatar into a war-torn digital realm.
