Kennosuke expresses doubts regarding the Happy Carrier Car's capability to handle the Alpine weather and roads. Travel is disrupted because the Saint Gotthard tunnel has collapsed, stopping trains bound for Italy for three days. As the troupe prepares supplies for departure, noblewoman Collette Preminger presents a bouquet of roses to her father, Duke, for his birthday, an event interrupted by Herman's arrival. Duke attempts to catch Nadja while the vehicle malfunctions during a storm. Following a meal, the group works together to restore the car, and Nadja reaffirms her resolve to find her mother.
