Detectives Crispus Allen and Anna Ramirez, hand-picked by Lt. James Gordon for the Major Crimes Unit, transport recently captured Man in Black, identified as Jacob Feely, an escaped Arkham Asylum inmate skilled in electronics and explosives, back to the facility. During the drive, they debate Batman’s influence on Gotham, with Allen criticizing their role as errand runners for a vigilante while Ramirez defends his positive impact. Allen announces his intent to leave the unit, prompting Ramirez to stop in a vacant lot for a confrontation. They become entangled in a conflict between rival mafia leaders Yuri "the Russian" Dimitrov and Sal Maroni. After Maroni hides behind their patrol car, the Russian destroys it with a rocket launcher, forcing the detectives to escape. Batman rescues Allen, eliminates the Russian and his men, and kills Maroni when he threatens Ramirez. Recognizing the officers as Gordon’s picks, Batman praises Gordon’s judgment before vanishing.
