Mizuho Asano requests Ikkaku Madarame to coach a kendo team at his school. His harsh training regimen causes most students to quit, leaving only Shinji, who remains determined to improve. To bolster the team for the upcoming tournament, Ikkaku enlists fellow Soul Reapers Hitsugaya and Renji Abarai. The Soul Reapers effortlessly defeat their opponents. However, a Hollow appears nearby, forcing the group to abandon the competition to fight it. Shinji faces the final opponent alone and secures victory while Ikkaku defeats the Hollow. Furious about missing the fight, Ikkaku attacks the entire opposing team in a rage. This event occurs during the Arrancar: The Hueco Mundo Sneak Entry arc.
