Twelfth division Soul Reaper Rin Tsubokura travels to Karakura Town for research, accompanied by Hanatarou Yamada. Yumichika Ayasegawa serves as their guide. They meet a chef ghost who asks them to bake a cake for his mother. When the mother refuses to eat the cake because it reminds her of her son, the chef begins turning into a hollow. A Menos Grande arrives, attracted by the transformation. Hanatarou stops the change and defeats the Menos Grande using his zanpakutou shikai. Rin uses a device to make the chef visible to his mother, allowing him to convince her to eat the cake. This event occurs during the Arrancar: The Hueco Mundo Sneak Entry arc.
