Ashido discloses that his previous assault was a test of strength and chooses to escort Rukia back to her companions. During their journey, he shares his history as a member of a unit tasked with hunting hollows that accidentally entered Hueco Mundo. Their travel is interrupted by an attack from an Adjuchas. Simultaneously, Nel and her allies are imprisoned by other Adjuchas, prompting Ichigo, Uryuu, Chad, and Renji to search the region for them. Rukia and Ashido swiftly defeat the initial Adjuchas, but a second one launches an ambush. Ashido sustains injuries while attempting to shield Rukia from the attack.
