Yumichika explains his use of a nickname for his zanpakutou to conceal kidou abilities and fit in with the eleventh division, where such usage is forbidden. Meanwhile, Findor informs Hisagi that removing pieces of his mask boosts his power. Elsewhere, Izuru battles Abirama, who resurreccion transforms him into a bird that attacks with heavy steel feathers. Izuru counters by using his zanpakutou, Wabisuke, to increase the weight of Abirama's wings, rendering them unable to fly. He notes that this power reflects the third division's belief that war is full of despair. Izuru then decapitates Abirama, stating afterward that he does not seek forgiveness for his actions.
