Ichigo and his companions must learn to focus their spiritual energy to operate a Spirit Orb, a device required to fire a cannon into the Seireitei. Ichigo struggles significantly with this task but eventually succeeds with assistance from Ganju, creating the necessary shell for the cannon ride. Meanwhile, within the Seireitei, all captains of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads gather for a meeting to discuss strategies regarding the intruders. This assembly is abruptly halted by an alarm signaling that an individual has successfully infiltrated the area. The events occur during the Soul Society: The Sneak Entry arc, specifically episode 4 of 21.
