Kimimaro defeats Professor Ebara in a duel, causing the man to go bankrupt. Ebara later explains that his punishment erased his children from existence, forcing him into Deals to support his family. He introduces Kimimaro to the Starling Guild, an organization led by Mikuni that aims to shield the real world from the Financial District's influence. Mikuni then takes Kimimaro to watch a duel against another high-level Entre, deliberately holding back to win by a narrow 1% margin to minimize real-world impact. Witnessing this restraint and the stakes involved, Kimimaro resolves to avoid losing, driven by the desire to prevent others from suffering the same fate as Ebara’s family.
