109
During her holidays, Candy visits Pony's Home and assists Mr. Cartwright, who is concerned about Jimmy. Inspired by soldiers' trench war stories, Jimmy obsessively plays war games, neglects farm chores, and fires a rifle, triggering a stampede. Mrs. Pony and Mr. Cartwright enter the thicket to find the children. Mr. Cartwright survives, but Jimmy believes he killed his father and flees in tears. Upon realizing the truth, Jimmy attempts to catch a cow to restore his honor, risking his life with Candy's help. He continues glorifying soldiering, dismissing Candy's accounts of survivors. Angry, Candy shows him the ravine where the stampeded cows died. Shocked by the carnage, Jimmy finally understands the brutal reality of war.
