In the sanctuary, Gaillard defeats Kamui, erasing his memories of Aichi and sending him to Earth. Gaillard claims Aichi chose to be sealed. Kai and Naoki reach the sealing chamber but are confronted by Gaillard, who teleports them to another room for a cardfight. During the battle, Gaillard shares his backstory: after his home burned down, he lived in an orphanage and resisted friendship until a boy’s card and a rescue mission softened his heart. He became a European Vanguard Circuit champion, using the game to help other children. However, Gaillard holds a grudge against Kai for aiding the Link Joker event, which nearly Reversed the world.
