Tanba takes the mound and establishes an 0-2 count with two fastballs. Miyuki requests a curveball, but it lands low and inside, nearly hitting a past ball. Miyuki makes a dramatic save to preserve Seido's one-run advantage. Recognizing Tanba's velocity despite his lack of control, Miyuki calls for another curveball, resulting in a strikeout against Sanada. In the top half of the ninth, Seido scores two runs to take an 8-5 lead. Following a double play grounded by Furuya, manager Kataoka decides to gamble. Furuya is removed from the game, leaving Tanba to face the bottom of the order with a three-run lead. If any runner reaches base, Tanba must confront Raichi. This episode covers chapters 113 to 115.
