The group faces an assault from Leomon and his rival Ogremon, prompting the Digimon to digivolve and repel the champions. They subsequently reach a mysterious mansion, which is revealed to be a deceptive construct by Devimon, the mastermind behind the Black Gears seeking to eliminate the DigiDestined. After Tai’s Digivice liberates him from the Black Gear’s control, Leomon sacrifices his brief freedom to allow Tai to escape. Devimon then shatters File Island into several smaller islands, causing the children and their partners to become separated from one another.
