Ep. 22: Homura mourns Valkyrie's death while Shiki confronts Kurenai for betrayal

A flashback reveals Valkyrie raising Homura on Oedo, facing prejudice against machines. Five years into training, Homura is reprimanded for defending Valkyrie. Valkyrie discovers Homura’s biological mother, Kurenai, enslaved at Sun Jewel, and takes her place in debt to free her. Two years later, Valkyrie learns Kurenai usurped the planet’s ruler and abandoned Homura. Kurenai provokes a Stone horde attack, causing Valkyrie to perish defending laborers. In the present, Homura finds Valkyrie’s remains and is devastated when Pino confirms she is beyond repair. Shiki consoles Homura, leaving her to grieve while he confronts Kurenai, resolving to bring her to Homura for judgment in Valkyrie’s stead.
