Young Kiritsugu Emiya resided on Alimango Island in the Philippines with his father Noritaka and assistant Shirley. Noritaka researched plant-based immortality, inspiring Shirley to test the formula on herself to honor his work. This magecraft transformed her into a Dead Apostle who attacked the village. Kiritsugu failed to kill her and fled to warn the Church, allowing the infection to spread. Church Executors and Mage's Association Enforcers arrived to contain the outbreak. Mercenary Natalia Kaminski rescued Kiritsugu, who then confronted his father. Noritaka dismissed the tragedy as an accident and intended to continue his experiments. Consequently, Kiritsugu killed his father, solidifying his worldview before escaping with Natalia.
