Apr 6, 1995Middle school students Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo study for Jonan Academy entrance exams. At the National Library, Miaka follows a vision to a special collections room and discovers the Universe of the Four Gods. Upon reading, both girls are transported to a world resembling ancient China. They are immediately attacked by slave traders but are rescued by a young man with an ogre character on his forehead. He demands payment, but having no money, he departs. Yui is suddenly pulled back to the library, leaving Miaka alone. Assuming the young man took Yui, Miaka travels to a nearby city to find him. There, a man claiming friendship with her rescuer leads her to four accomplices intending to assault her and sell her. Miaka resists initially but is overpowered. The young man returns and defeats the attackers, saving Miaka once more.

The group travels to Taiitsukun with tension between Miaka and Tamahome. That night, Nuriko directs Tamahome to a mineral spring where Miaka is bathing. Tamahome arrives and saves Miaka from a dark shape, which turns out to be a log. Realizing Miaka is undressed, they turn away and apologize, with Tamahome embarrassed by her appearance. Juan Myou arrives with the group, and Shouka accuses him of abandonment, leading Miaka to deduce they were lovers. Shouka begs Juan to end her life, which he does, dispelling the possession and vanishing the house. Juan heals Miaka and reveals himself as Mitsukake, the sixth Suzaku Seven member and a healer. Jul 27, 1995Five days after finding Mitsukake, Miaka and her Warriors search for the final Suzaku Warrior. A mysterious flute song, audible only to Miaka, leads them to Hakkou village, Tamahome's hometown. Mitsukake heals Tamahome's father, and the group stays at Tamahome's home. While in Kutou, Yui attends to the comatose Tamahome, confessing her feelings and urging him to forget Miaka, though she stops short of physical advance. Back in Hakkou, Miaka is attacked by bats after hearing the flute song again. Hotohori and Tasuki attempt to help but are devoured. The flute player, revealed to be Chiriko, the final Suzaku Warrior, kills the bats and a Kutou spy. The group returns to Konan, where Chichiri and Tasuki welcome them. Meanwhile, Tamahome returns a hair ribbon to Miaka, which he had preserved despite being under Nakago's control. The episode concludes with Miaka standing before a fire, surrounded by the members of the Suzaku Seven as they await the upcoming ritual.

Sep 14, 1995The Suzaku summoning ceremony begins with Miaka making three wishes, but the ritual fails. Chiriko plays a flute that causes everyone pain, revealing himself as Amiboshi of the Seriyuu Seven. Tasuki and Tamahome chase him to a river where he falls after stepping on a crumbling stone. Miaka saves his flute, but Amiboshi lets go and disappears into the water. The group returns to the castle with only the flute. They discover the real Chiriko is a thirteen-year-old boy who explains how he saved them. The celestial warriors attempt to summon Suzaku again but fail. Taiitsukun appears and informs them of an alternative method to summon the guardian.
