Art assessors evaluate paintings attributed to Saeki Yuuzou, with all but Jimi declaring them genuine. The Tenryou City Council accepts the works and plans a major exhibition curated by Funamura Gentarou, who intends to include a self-portrait owned by Fujita. Jimi is ostracized for his dissent, raising concerns about the paintings' authenticity. When Funamura Gentarou falls ill, Fujita is asked to assess the works but recommends Jimi as the expert. After visiting Gentarou in the hospital, Fujita learns that Gentarou has decided to name the principled Jimi as his successor, resolving the dispute over the artworks' validity and Jimi's professional standing.
