Elizabeth arrives at Gallery Fake asserting she is Fujita's daughter. Fujita takes her home, but thugs abduct her that night. Using a dropped key, Fujita retrieves a packet from a railway locker containing Antonio de Beatis's diary. He and Sara travel to Florence to meet d'Avalos, an obsessive collector of Mona Lisa copies who claims descent from Constanza d’Avalos to aid his political ambitions. Fujita recruits Carlos for explosives. The diary indicates the painting depicts Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo, who is the ancestor of Elizabeth's mother, Flora del Anton Maria del Giocondo. Meanwhile, d’Avalos holds Elizabeth captive in a tower on his estate.
