Ep. 2: Saito admires a sword while Chizuru faces a geisha mission with bodyguards

Hajime Saito praises a sword to Chizuru, who laughs at his enthusiasm. In a flashback, Kondo and Toshizo Hijikata assign Chizuru a dangerous undercover geisha mission. Saito and Susumu Yamazaki volunteer as her bodyguards, repelling attackers who harass her. Saito nearly confesses his feelings but is interrupted. Later, he and Chizuru discuss his intended words while she questions Hijikata’s beard. Hijikata apologizes to Saito for the risky assignment. The following morning, Saito and Chizuru admire the snow, and she gifts him a snow rabbit.
