Aug 5, 2011Soji Okita pressures Chizuru Yukimura to resume her undercover geisha role as his tuberculosis worsens. Commander Isami Kondo grows concerned and orders Okita to remain grounded. Chizuru joins the group to celebrate her successful mission, during which Shinpachi Nagakura engages in a drunken fight on the return journey. Later, Kondo personally prepares spring onion porridge for Chizuru to serve Okita. Despite his strong aversion to the ingredient, Okita consumes the entire bowl, demonstrating his compliance with the commander’s orders and concern for his health.

Saito admires a sword while Chizuru faces a geisha mission with bodyguards

Harada bets his life on retrieving the item, while Shiranui Kyo secretly assists Chizuru in recovering the stolen letter. The inspectors return the letter, satisfied, but file a complaint against Harada with Hijikata. As punishment, Harada accepts a significant pay cut and remains silent about the event. Shinpachi later takes Harada out for drinks to help him cope with the consequences of his actions during this incident.

Heisuke’s Duck Stew Mishap and Chizuru’s Geisha House Rescue
Oct 28, 2011Heisuke Toudou fights on the street with Chizuru, who is restrained by Harada. Heisuke catches a duck for dinner, but when he and Shinpachi snatch meat, it hits Hijikata’s forehead. Heisuke blames Hijikata, earning a beating. A flashback shows Heisuke seeing Chizuru at a geisha house, then demanding Kondo and Hijikata end her dangerous mission. While he is away, Kazama Chikage attempts to kiss Chizuru until Osen intervenes. Heisuke returns to headquarters, complains about the mission, and gets permission to stop it. He finds Chizuru gone but hears Yamazaki upstairs and joins the fight against drunken lechers. The next morning, Heisuke, Chizuru, Shinpachi, and Harada have a snowball fight. Hijikata appears, demanding to know what happened to the tattered screen doors.

Hijikata’s Haiku and the Snowy Morning with Kondou and Chizuru
Nov 25, 2011Hijikata wakes to first snow and composes a haiku, which Souji teases him about while Chizuru watches. Later, Kondou and Hijikata discuss Edo’s defection, prompting Hijikata to visit a geisha house to recruit Saito. Chaos ensues as Chizuru’s attire causes a commotion, leading Hijikata to assert his Shinsengumi vice-captain status to extract her. Souji teases the pair upon their return. The following day, Hijikata observes Harada with Bakufu inspectors, while Saito and Shinpachi drink with Itou. Hijikata nearly clashes with Kazama until Sannan intervenes. Kondou brings dangos to Hijikata’s room, where Souji reads the earlier haiku aloud, comparing it to the sweets and embarrassing Hijikata further.
