Rahzel, Alzeid, and Baroqueheat seek shelter from a rainstorm at a mansion inhabited by two sisters. Although the older sister, Madeila, opposes their stay, the younger sister permits it and requests that Alzeid and Baroqueheat follow Madeila into a nearby cave if she searches for her late grandfather's treasure. Madeila asks Rahzel to accompany her on this expedition, and the group departs amidst the storm. They eventually discover that the treasure is a fossil of a winged creature that reflects the morning light. This discovery inspires Madeila, who decides to temporarily run away from home.
