Rahzel and her two companions become lost and discover a town that conducts sky burials by placing corpses on stakes in a nearby forest for birds to eat. They meet Larawel, whose father owns a local inn, and decide to stay there. Larawel's father provides Alzeid with information regarding his father's murderer. When Larawel disappears, Rahzel and the others search for her. They uncover that the town has changed significantly since Larawel was born eight years ago. There is a growing suspicion among the townspeople that Larawel's father uses black magic to keep her alive.
