After Kazuta kisses Hondomachi, she reports the incident to Matsuoka, who suspects Kazuta is the Gravedigger killer. Matsuoka theorizes that the Perforator’s injury caused his unconscious mind to confuse his urges to kiss and kill, suggesting a craving for love drives his actions. Sakaido explores Kazuta’s id, providing evidence that confirms his guilt to the investigation team. Officer Nishimura and his unit raid Kazuta’s home to arrest him, but they arrive too late to prevent a rigged gas explosion that kills the officers and destroys the crime scene. The true mastermind is revealed to be Kazuta’s former classmate, Nahoshi Inami, a sadist with a crush on Kazuta who enjoys watching people die. The episode concludes with Hondomachi holding Inami at gunpoint, unaware that Kazuta is hiding nearby with a knife.
