Inuyasha and his companions meet an old woman named Haori, who claims to be a demon exorcist. She explains that an oni head is haunting a nearby bourg after rising from a grave in a neighboring castle. When the head appears, Miroku determines it is an illusion, while Inuyasha suspects the castle lord is possessed. Miroku accompanies the princess to the castle basement to examine the skeletons of monks and a priestess who previously failed to destroy the oni head.
