Mistress Centipede follows Kagome to the village, seeking the Shikon Jewel. Kagome encounters Inuyasha, a dog hanyō, nailed to a tree by arrows. Believing him dead, she removes the arrows, only to find him alive. Inuyasha explains he was imprisoned by Sacred Arrows until her release. He then uses his superhuman powers to defeat Mistress Centipede. During the battle, a jewel emerges from Kagome’s chest, which Kaede identifies as the Shikon Jewel and gives to Kagome as its rightful heir.
