Sakon conducts a seance with Ukon, during which the voice of Kyouichi emerges to disclose that he is deceased and interred near flowers. Oki Katsumi, a family friend, exposes himself as the murderer while attempting to exhume Kyouichi's remains. Katsumi engages in combat wielding the Byakko sword, but the weapon shatters upon striking a stone fox statue. Consequently, Katsumi meets his demise when the broken blade strikes him.
