Ia-lu, poisoned by Dahmiyah and injured by the Psi-Gamul, finds shelter at Lazal with Erin. She treats his wounds as he explains that Dahmiyah allied with the Psi-Gamul to kill the late Shin-Oh. Dahmiyah sends Kirik to confirm Ia-lu’s death, but Kirik spares him upon seeing him safe with Erin. Upon learning of this failure, Dahmiyah personally seeks Ia-lu but leaves empty-handed after checking Eku and Lilan's shed. Erin had actually hidden Ia-lu under Lilan. Throughout the night, the pair converse and resolve to jointly expose the truth to the Shin-Oh Seimiyah.
